When Dave from DMCMW visited Australia 7 months ago, he was telling me that one of the independant vendors had made cooling fins that attach around the coolant pipes near the Auto trans. Thought I would try and track down these fins. He said they may work, but obviously not super effective, but do work to some degree.

Harvey may have had them? Just guessing here.

Rob Grady (PJGrady DeLorean) is/was selling a finned assembly that clamped over the trans cooler pipe.

Thanks Dave!

Does anyone know if these are still kicking around or have some lying in the their grage gathering dust?

Anyone have a photo of exactly where this aluminum fin wrap attaches on the auto trans pipe? I cannot seem to find a pic anywhere.

Thanks,
Andy

It can only fit between the two connection lines so that's where it goes.

Would on oil cooler for the transmission be better for the box? I might rip out the gearbox next year (when I have the funds) and if a cooler is a better idea, then I should get one installed then.

It wouldn't hurt. I have seen a few installed but seemingly after it was too late, i.e. they had already lunched a transmission.

My problem with the installations is that you end up with an extra 12 feet of hose hanging under the car that is vulnerable to road damage. None of the installs I've seen were what I'd call "clean", more like "hey dude let's use a few zipties and hang these hoses below the frame, whack a hole in the fan shroud, and stuff the cooler in there".

I'm not sure what would be better as I don't think I'd want two hot oil lines running under the carpet either.

Someone spent a lot of time bending tubing and installing this in my car:

I'm not sure if the fluid pump was designed to move that volume of fluid, and it leaked everywhere. The tubing ran next to the heater core lines, which didn't aid in cooling. I removed it all.
28551

which is why I installed this....

Thanks Ed! Just curious, what's that little white tube with the cooling fins? I just bought the cooling fins at DCS2014 from PJ Grady, but it didn't come with the white tube.

I know what you mean Dave. I thought there would be an oil cooler tucked next to the transmission, drawing the air from underneath.

Is there a link to where I can purchase this kit?

A little tube of thermal grease. I don't know how necessary it is, but I used it.

Rob's custom products seem to have disappeared from his website when it was redesigned. If you call and ask, they should know what you're talking about.

I don't know how well Rob's kit works, but it was cheap and if it cools a little bit, then I think it was worth it. I think the price of the kit has since gone up.

I thought DPI was working on an auto trans cooler as well. I think Josh posted a pic on facebook.

Here are a couple pictures of DPI's auto trans cooler on my car: 2856128562 It seems to work fine and probably cools the transmission better than just the aluminum fins from Grady, which I had for several years.

This looks pretty good and I think yr right, would probably do a better job in the cooling department compared to the wrap around. I'll ask Josh what these goes for. Thanks!
