It took a few tries, but I found the right location for the camera

Nice attempts. Did you ever try mounting it on the roof on the t panel, facing forward or rear. Or better yet put two cameras on.

The successful suction cup mounts I've seen so far on a D involved glass.

Brushed stainless doesn't like suction cups...or at least not the ones I've tried. Has it worked for anybody else?

Suction cups are no good on stainless, at least not for me with a GoPro.
It appears to hold at first but then when you least expect it, the camera lets go and you get footage of it scraping across the highway or other hazards.

The best way is to use the self adhesive attachments that come with it or in an accessory pack. Those do not let go and work very well!

Surely there is a decent magnetic mount for these?

Excellent video. All those different positions were good to watch. That curvy road looked a little intense at times.

I agreed, Delorean's Stainless Steel is non magnetic... I'd tried a magnet on my car, didn't work "and don't call me Shirley" -quote from Airplane

Years back I played around with something like this. Had fun:

And for those of you who've mentioned that suction cups and stainless don't mix - couldn't agree more.

That curvy road looked like a lot of fun. I loved the cars in the first part of the video.

I used the luggage rack and a handle-bar mount with a telescopic extension to secure the GoPro to the car. Worked pretty well, but I didn't get any exciting footage on that drive.

Got myself a new GoPro Hero 3 Black edition though, so will be conducting some similar tests myself once again!

I agreed, Delorean's Stainless Steel is non magnetic... I'd tried a magnet on my car, didn't work....

It reminds me of a time when our D was at the dealer's shop for some work and the service writer popped one of those magnetic number-domes on the roof of the car, same as with the other cars they service.

Of course it slid right off the roof when they drove the car....
