View Full Version : Rich W's Custom DeLoreans in the UK (sort of) on Channel 4 Car TV Show

Well, it's been two months since the Channel 4 film crew was here in the U.S. to video some content for an upcoming Car TV Show this Spring.

http://www.digitalspy.com/british-tv/news/a535200/philip-glenister-to-host-car-show-for-channel-4.html (story at this link is over 2 months old now)

The show will be somewhat similar to the Wheeler Dealer DeLorean show, with a DeLorean project, as well as stories about "all things DeLorean"
from interviews of members of the DeLorean community, to rare original DeLoreans, to some radical custom DeLoreans (and my creations).

Luckily, the crew had almost authentic Irish Weather during the Midwest filming, with 57 degrees and heavy fog, all day long on December 4th,
instead of the 50 degree drop in about 48-50 hours, with only 7 degrees on Saturday, December 7th, only a few days later.

Although the temp was relatively warm, the heavy fog contributed to damp stainless panels, all day long, until about 4pm when filming wrapped.
The interviewing went well, except for Phil's big, puffy, nylon coat causing background noise on his mic, and the occasional light rain and drizzle.

Sorry, no preview photos allowed until "official" preview photos are released, but that should be happening within the next month or so.
I was not given the exact TV air date yet, but it does appear the show is still on-track for it's originally intended mid-March release.

I will post more air date details once I have them confirmed and I will post a few preview photos soon, when I can.

Note: If the timing works out, I should have a DVD copy here for the DMC Club Spring Brunch event in early April.

Sorry, no exact date released yet, but since the episode production just ended last week, the episode will not be broadcast until early April.

Attaching a few "official/unofficial" photos "leaked" during the final stages of the episode production in the UK toward the end of February.

Is this one of your cars that they exported or was a trip to Rich's World O'DeLoreans just a sidebar to the episode?

As I mentioned in the original post ...

The show will be somewhat similar to the Wheeler Dealer DeLorean show, with a DeLorean project, as well as stories about "all things DeLorean"
from interviews of members of the DeLorean community, to rare original DeLoreans, to some radical custom DeLoreans (and my creations).

As for the DeLorean in the photos, similar to Wheeler Dealer, the car was a project
purchased by the production company to refurbish during the episode.
Unlike Wheeler Dealer, this DeLorean was a "locally" purchased project.
They might have been better off with one of my DeLorean project cars.

That's what I was wondering. Did they buy one of you project cars and video the creations while they were there picking it up, or were the two things independent of each other.

Got it :)

After a few email exchanges this week with the folks in the UK, it sounds like the show will debut later this month.

Although the debut is delayed, they are continuing to edit the show, to include as much DeLorean content as possible.
At last contact, they were adding more photos with the voice-over portions of the show, and I just sent more photos.

So, it's looking more like a debut at the end of April, but if I hear about a date "etched in stone", I will post it here.

Update - the Series Debut is this Sunday, but the First Episode is not the DeLorean Episode.

Email from the producers below, including a teaser YouTube video with some DeLorean footage.

Update ... for those in the UK, the Love of Cars - DeLorean Show will debut on Sunday, May 25th, 2014.

I am hoping a copy of the show will be "in the mail" the next day, so I will have a copy before DCS 2014.

If I get the DVD copy in time, I will have to twist Ken K.'s arm a bit (lol) so we can play it during DCS one day.

As you have probably seen from other threads and posts, my projects will only be a very small part of the show,
with the refurbishing of a DeLorean being the main focus, along with interviews with Kathryn DeLorean and others.

And, as expected, a big thanks to Rob Lambrock and all the DeLorean owners in the UK that helped make this show
"chocked-full" of great DeLorean content, as can be seen in the small sampling in the promotional clip.

I was over in the UK a couple of weeks ago and saw an episode in which they featured a Triumph Stag. It was excellent and they treated the Stag with a lot of respect. If the episode featuring the D is anything like that, it'll be awesome.

Tonight's episode featured the MG TC; they also showed a preview for next week's Delorean episode. The clip featured, amongst other things, Rich and the presenter driving the D Rex, and a shot of (I assume) the project car billowing smoke or steam from the engine area.

Really looking forward to this now!

As Chris Williams mentioned in another related thread, this show has been in production for a very long time (over a year now)
and while it is a little unfortunate that much of the outdoor footage was done in much less than ideal weather and time of year,
the overall appearances in the show will hopefully be the "best" of what was filmed. As I mentioned before, it was foggy and
raining most of the day when the production crew filmed for an entire day here in early December, in the Midwest of the U.S.
The next day, it dropped over 50 degrees and it was clear and sunny. Within a few days, it was down to single digit temps.
Although all my vehicles were either wet from the rain or damp from the fog, I am hoping they appeared OK on the camera.

In any case, it will be a very interesting show. There has certainly been a lot of effort put into it. Thanks to all who helped.

Note: Standard Filming Formula may apply: 1 hour of filming = 1 minute of footage in the final cut of the show

Thanks again to Mike for posting the Vimeo link: https://vimeo.com/96502050 (password: dmc-12)

For those who want to check out a few of my DeLorean creations, there is about two minutes of footage
between 37:10 and 39:20 in the above link. The D Rex looked great, even with 4 cameras mounted on it.

Watched the whole episode yesterday on Youtube. What a great plug for the Delorean!!

Very happy with this, compared to Quentin Willson's review many years ago.

I just finished up a video and photo shoot (and interview) this weekend with Barcroft Media Ltd (UK) based out of London.

As I understand, there will be a new Barcroft Media Automotive Channel launching sometime this Fall, most likely in October 2014
and some of my Custom DeLoreans will be featured in one of the initial shows, as they continue to film content for this channel.

As with other recent filming events over the past few years, there was a full day of filming, so I hope there will be at least 5 - 10 minutess
of edited footage that will make it into the show (and more photos on the Barcroft Media website as well). Yes, there was a "script" too.

I will fill everyone in on some of the filming details as we get closer to the debut, but what I will mention now is that you will see DeLoreans
doing some things on camera that has not been filmed to broadcast to the public, either for a TV show or movie, or just for YouTube.

As for the environmental factors, it was a really hot and humid day, along with a few passing rain showers throughout the day (not ideal).
Those of you "continuity freaks" may notice how many times I change T-Shirts (sweating and/or rained on) and moving my remote mic.

I do not recall what the final "weather stats" were for the day, but it was well above 88 degrees and 88% humidity for most of the day.
Yes, I was hot and sweaty and a bit cranky by the end of the day (putting cars away in the rain), but overall I think it went well.

Attaching a photo of the initial setup for the video, being filmed by Ruaridh from Barcroft Media.

Today I received a "Fact Check" draft copy of some of the text that will be used in the article that will accompany the photos and video clips.

Overall, facts were accurate but missing some details, so as is, some of the brief text could be taken out of context to mean something incorrect.

Hopefully, things will now remain as accurate as possible in the "final cut" version, and as of today, things are still on-track for a debut this October.

Well, they missed the October deadline, but I did see the Final Cut of the video before the end of October.

The video turned out well, but there is few seconds of footage (after a few "hop" jumps) where the radiator
developed a small leak, where the aluminum radiator and steel bracket come together and the D Rex is seen
puffing a little steam behind and around the huge front bumper and radiator grille. It almost looks like it is a
special effect, so I guess I cannot be too upset about a very small amount of that footage in the final cut.

Release date has not been disclosed yet, but it should be sometime this month, hopefully in early November.

I will be creating a new thread for the actual video and/or article release.
