Today I finally decided to document the cross referenced parts that are on my car. If anyone wants to look at my list for references please feel free to do so. I plan to keep the list updated as I replace parts on my car.

I printed a copy that existed on the old site before it went down. Does anyone want me to repost it? I figured it was already here until I looked for it at work today.

Re-copied from my print out of the old Post on DMCTalk.com I have left things exactly as they were on the original print out.

This List is intended to be used for EMERGENCY purposes only. Do not use these parts for regular maintenance or as a permanent replacement. Some parts may cause damage if used on a long term basis.

This Cross-Over List is intended for use when a car is disabled and needs to be made mobile. Once you have gotten to your repair area, it is suggested that you immediately call one of the vendors to purchase the correct part.

Myself and Dmctalk.org will not be held liable for any damages caused by the information listed below. All Parts listed are a compilation from the old Cross-Over Parts List that was posted on the old DMCTalk.com forum. Use of all information below is AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Another alternator is #7157112 for a mid 70's caddilac (eldorado?) It needs to have the pulley and fan transferred over and requires a modified universal j bracket to tension it (drill a new hole and cut off much of the strait part of the J.

Did you ever get this P/N? My flasher just died as well.... the damn plastic that surrounds the connectors was brittle as all get out and just disintegrated... and I think I bent the hell out of something while trying to reach under the dash blind to reconnect it :)

Would like to add the following item as a crossover part:

Flux Capacitor(Wrong description!):
O'Reilly Autoparts
Part # 121GMF
http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/EB00/121GMF.oap?keyword=121gmf

Description:

Detailed Description

•Mr. Fusion Upgrade
•Upgrade Kit: "Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor Generator"
•Replaces Plutonium
•Mr. Fusion Home Energy Reactor converts household waste to fusion power (specifically cold fusion)
•The generator creates 1.21 Gigawatts of power which supplies the time machine's flux capacitor and time circuits using nuclear fusion

Foot note:

This is not a Flux Capacitor but Mr. Fusion.

Now, this is the Flux Capacitor:

http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/detail/EB00/121G.oap?year=1981&make=Delorean&model=DMC%2B12&vi=1312333&keyword=121g

Part Number: 121G
Line: EB - Limited Availability

Detailed Description

•1.21 Gigawatts
•Time Travel at your own RISK!!!
•Plutonium is required to properly operate Flux Capacitor.
•Plutonium is used by the on-board nuclear reactor which then powers the Flux Capacitor to provide the needed 1.21 Gigawatts of Electrical Power.
•Plutonium not Available at O'Reilly Or CSK Stores. Please contact your local supplier.
•Flux Capacitor requires the stainless steel body of the 81-83 DeLorean DMC-12, V6 2.9L , to properly function.
•Once the time machine travels at 88 mph (142 km/h), light coming from the flux capacitor pulses faster until it becomes a steady stream of light. Then, time travel begins.
•Upgrade Kits available: Part # 121GMF

I am running NGK plugs which I believe are TR5. They are working fine. Just make sure you gap them correctly and you should be good to go.

I very much appreciate the efforts to put this list together. I went to the parts house and they had the cabin / heater blower motor in stock. I needed one and when I put then side by side two things:
1. Drain hole on the chevy part listed was a larger diameter so it wouldn't use the stock drain line.
2. The motor spins the wrong direction.

For me #2 is a dealbraker ... Switching the polls did not seem worth it so I'll be ordering from a vender and hope that spins the proper direction . :)

Just figured I'd post my findings and also checked the Carquest equivalent.. also wrong direction.

I think the part number provided was: PM106

Thanks for the list though! I do check it first for the local supply.

Reverse the polarity on your connections and it will spin the correct way.

Just in case- you have to take the direction of the fins into conderation along with rotation...common to switch both on aftermarket units.

The Delco only has one wire connection (if that is the correct number).

It only had one wire without poping it open... And didn't include the cage / fins... So I guess true I could get a new cage but would it work properly considering the design of the ducting ? I figured it was made to be spinning that way for the duct work..

You don't have to pop it open. That would void your lifetime warranty.

Connect your ground wire where it says positive on the unit and your positive wire where it says ground on the unit. Polarity reversed.

You may feel a little tingle if you connect the case to 12 volts and you touch it. I had an old positive ground car once and installed a radio for a negative ground. I would feel it anytime I touched the radio.

And didn't include the cage / fins... So I guess true I could get a new cage but would it work properly considering the design of the ducting ? I figured it was made to be spinning that way for the duct work..Sorry I worded that completely wrong- Reversing rotation and fin direction at the same time will not provide adequate air flow-pressure (unless you also moved the outlet in the box to the other side...eg flipping it to stuff a big block in a Vega, or total RH drive conversion ;-).
Air flow is always from the center and out through the fins (think airfoil)-- Unlike an axial fan, you would be lucky to get any flow at all. Cage fins are made with reverse curve, straight, and forward curves. These give you low flow - high pressure, to, high flow - low pressure, respectively. A different (aftermarket) motor may be stronger/weaker and matched with different leaning (and/or size) fins to compensate.
Sooo, the moral of the story is that when shopping in the aftermarket world, you can be faced with A LOT of unknown variables...and pitfall$.

FWIW- It is common for DC motors to have the brushes ride the commutator off center making it a very bad idea to reverse polarity...

I can't remember if I am running reverse polarity or not but it works much better than my old unit. If I am running reverse polarity and it breaks I will simply go down to Autozone and swap it for another thanks to the lifetime warranty.

Edit: For what its worth, I have been using the Autozone part for about a year without any problems. If I do need to swap its no big deal since it only takes 5 minutes to do so.

Edit: If the one you replaced was stock, then your's is running the same way now.

The rear shocks that are on my car are Monroe 5968. Also as a note. Any rear shock from a mustang / mustang gt from 1994 to 2004 is the same size. You will just need to make or buy the collar that the rear coil spring sits on. 8)

You must also ensure that the body of the shock is strong enough to support the weight of the car (the weight of the car is transferred to the body of the shock in the delorean - in these other cars they simply sit in the suspension), and you should replace the bushings as the bushes in these shocks are not made for this type of weight.

The bush is doable, you just have to do the legwork, but as far as the strength of the shock... Yes, some vendors do sell these or similar shocks and a number of our cars run them - but since the ability to carry the weight of the car is not part of the design spec for this model you are relying on luck to some degree. Monroe manufactures in several countries and plants, and the diameters and construction methods of the shocks vary from plant to plant and year to year. I know that at least one vendor who decided to go this route sacrificed a sample shock to evaluate its construction and worked with a qualified engineer to ensure the ones he was reselling were up to the task.

Note that if you do decide to go this way, and have custom collars made, you might decide to get additional shocks at the same time - if and when the shocks eventually fail you may not be able to find the same shock from the same production run, and therefore the diameters may be different. You will have your custom collars, but may still have to start over again with a new shock.

Very well put. If you are running cross-reference shocks in this application (essentially a coil-over setup) using the shocks' original lower bushings, take a look at the bushings after a few hundred miles. They are not made to carry the weight of the car and wil generally go flat or split.

This is not an issue in the front as the weight is carried on the lower control arms and the shock is simply a shock.

I'm a big fan of cross referencing stuff but its not worth it for the rear shocks. Just call up your favorite vendor and order something that has been tested.

If anybody wants a new Bosch Ignition Coil, the part number is, 0 221 122 001. You can get one at RockAuto, just look under the DeLorean Listing. However, they currently have the part number listed incorrectly as, 0 221 122 010. They just made a typo, as when I ordered the coil, it has the 0 221 122 001 number on the box.

If anyone needs a clutch kit, you can get the Valeo kit from Amazon when they have it in stock. Check often to see if they update their stock. Here is the link:

I have gone through 2 NOS hoses, and decided to find a new replacement. Both of the replacements I got started to crack in about a year. This is the hose I am referencing:

http://store.delorean.com/p-6357-hose.aspx

If you search on eBay for a "Volvo air box breather" or something similar, you will come up with this:

http://www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_kw=WD+EXPRESS+147+53001+662+Crankcase+Br eather+Part&_id=130852581748

Here is the part from the Mackay (manufacture) website:
http://www.mackayrubber.com.au/products/automotive/

17770

I paid about $11 for the hose on eBay, about the same cost as a NOS hose.

If you're an automatic transmission owner and you need the hose that connects the passenger side coolant pipe to the automatic transmission cooler pipe, you'll note it is a 4 to 5 inch hose with 1.5" diameter on one side and 1.25" on the other. Here is the hose you need: Dayco radiator hose. Part # 70816.

NOTE: This is not an exact match for the stock DMC part! The switch looks slightly different, and - most importantly - the wires will need to be extended a few inches.

This (http://www.a1electric.com/catalog/cat_delorean.htm) is where the upgrade units come from. The price has increased dramatically in recent years; they used to sell the motors individually, but now they only sell them in pairs. I'm guessing Houston did a deal with them.

This will work fine if you have a 180F or less thermostat.

I run a 192F thermostat, using an Otterstat in this range will not work. The thermostat would prevent the otterstat from cycling off.

Nice find though.

The blower speed switch is from ~'81 to 90's vintage VW Jetta, Gulf and others as well. I just installed one ($10 eBay) and it feels a lot better than the old one - more solid and tight feeling. The old one failed catastrophically and eventually would not rotate or operate the blower.

At that price it might be worth changing out as a PM replacement.

So, I order the Four Seasons 35589 motor. I install it, and turned it on to feel not much air coming from the passenger side hole.
I reach outside to feel the air vents below the windshield, and air is blowing out of them like a mofo.
Oh no! The motor is turning the wrong way, I say to myself.
So I compare with the old motor. It turns the SAME direction.
(My old motor reads: 'UNIMOTOR 11589 12V 01354' Made in Canada.
Looking at the shaft, it turns COUNTER clockwise.
Can anyone verify which direction the motor should turn?

Gas cap cross over?

Do we know of a suitable gas cap cross over? Like a make and model of vehicle that I could reference when walking into an auto parts store?

I don't need the locking one as I don't have a gas flap hood. Mine is a bit crusty looking underneath and I thought it might not be a bad idea to ensure that it is sealing well.

Mark D
09-16-2015, 09:05 AM
If you haven't already looked the ones from DMCH are actually really nice. The site lists them as an improved part so I'm not sure if they are a direct crossover or a reproduction.

http://store.delorean.com/p-6705-gas-cap.aspx

The photo shows the handle part as grey in color so I was planning to remove the lower latch, spring, and seal and swap it over to my original black fuel cap. To my surprise when it arrived it was black and was pretty much identical to my original cap so I just installed it as-is.

It won't help in an emergency if you're on the road and need a quick replacement, but if that's your concern you can always stash a spare somewhere.

Jonathan
09-16-2015, 10:52 AM
Thanks Mark. I agree the DMCH one looks good and would be fine. And it isn't an emergency, thankfully.

The real issue is that with the exchange rate to Canadian dollars, everything ordered and then shipped from the US comes to about double of what it shows as the price on the webstore. This is higher on smaller orders and less so on bigger orders. Needing one thing or another here and there doesn't justify the minimum shipping costs. Not until you have a bunch of things to get all at once. I don't mind doing this, but having local options, in my own currency, is helpful. Especially generic items like gas caps or batteries or brake pads, etc. I've always bought my car parts through the recognized vendors, but there is a reality to the costs being unnecessarily high going over the border. Understandable?

Mark D
09-16-2015, 01:32 PM

Hey, thanks for the offer, Chris. I'm okay for now. The filters are still readily available from most vendors and not all that expensive either. The K&N air filter for the DeLorean is long out of stock.

After using the measurements on this site, the closest match I found is K&N #33-2371.

Dimensions of length and width is oversize by a mm or two, so it's a tight fit. It is about 1/3 the thickness of the original paper filter as well.

I just installed mine tonight and haven't had a chance to run the car yet. If it works well I'll probably leave it on as my paper filter is coming apart and super dirty after less than a year and minimal miles, and it's not easy to get these size filters in Australia.

Just installed one of these. Looks like an exact match. It works.

Today I finally decided to document the cross referenced parts that are on my car. If anyone wants to look at my list for references please feel free to do so. I plan to keep the list updated as I replace parts on my car.
