Ok, it looks like this Saturday, July 30, 2011 I will be separating the body and frame of VIN 6393.

This is not an "official" DCF event, but anyone who would like to show up to assist is welcome. For those of you who haven't been to my place, the address is:

2417 Formax Dr.
Orlando, FL 32828

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=2417+formax+dr+orlando&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&gl=us&z=16

I'm not sure how long it will take, but we will probably get started around 9:00 AM. Please RSVP if you will be able to make it out.

AAh, this kills me. I'm too far south to make it to all the SEDOC Atlanta meetings and I'm too far north to make it to the DCF Orlando meetings. FML.

I suppose it's time to start that coastal Georgia DeLorean owners club.

I make it to every single one of the VDOC (vancouver delorean owners club) meetings because I'm the only member.

Sorry Brandon. I really want to be there and take apart your car but publix scheduled me early on Saturday. I have to go in at 1 when I usually go in at 4:banghead:

That's ok. You never said if my offer for your spare was acceptable or not, though.

Sorry you can't make it out!

My niece will be here, snapping away with her camera during the whole process. Not to worry!

So far, it's just myself, Derek, and John for Saturday.

Ok, the job is done.

First, I want to say Thank You to John, Brandon, and Derek for coming out for this job. There's no way I could have managed this on my own.

There were very few tense moments during the separation. One such instance was the right rear body bolt (on the cross brace) decided to seize up during removal, prompting us to drill out the top a bit. Luckily, the head snapped off after some more "coaxing".

Having a couple of extra hands available to rock the body front or back was a great help. We only missed one connection during prep: the vacuum line for the brake booster. Once that was cut, it was smooth sailing... or lifting, as it were.

My niece, Sarah, came over with her awesome camera and shot more than 200 pics of the process. Instead of posting them here (I don't have all day), i put them up on photobucket for everyone to see. They are all extremely high res, so those on dial-up shouldn't even try to look at them.

Enjoy!

I am so JEALOUS and not for what you think.

YOU HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONED GARAGE!!!!

Our northern brothers and sisters they have no idea how important that is in Florida.

Good job, by the way if you need anything this week I have a conference in Disney and should be available in the evenings.

+1, i can sympathize with you, Lenny. i just changed the oil in my and my girlfriend's vehicles... its so hot and humid that i left sweat puddles on my creeper. by the time i got inside it looked like i had gone for a swim with my clothes on.

Well, not entirely. I have insulated my garage door, which is something that everyone should do, especially if you do any work in your garage. Think about it... You have a giant metal radiator absorbing and transferring the sun's heat directly into your garage. Insulating it cuts the heat transfer down tremendously.

I do have plans to put A/C out there, but that isn't in the budget quite yet. All I do at the moment is open up the interior door and put a fan in the doorway to blow some A/C out into the garage. It's a low tech solution, but it works!

I'm in Minnesota and I have a dedicated 18,000BTU unit waiting for installation in my garage. Just waiting to be able to afford the wiring. Its a 220v unit and the house's breaker panel is on the complete opposite side than the garage is on. So even us northerners know how important it is especially if you do a lot of work in the garage. Heat/humidity builds during the day, and then you can't even have the doors open at night due to the bugs.

Good work and congrats on the separation. What was that line that was rusted through? Brake or fuel?

Morpheus

It was the hard line to the evap cansiter from the fuel tank.

I'm all set to pull the motor, just need to plan the day. Now that it's cooler out, I'd love to get it done within the last couple of weeks. Is anyone free next weekend?

It now looks as if I'm having a small, impromptu "engine removal" session this Friday night, the eve of the Lake Mirror show.

I'm not sure when the next one will be, but it will definitely be after summer. It's too damn miserably hot to do anything right now.
