The only reason I know what he meant is because I've been watching a ton of Miami Vice lately. It's a term they used often on the show. But yeah, not something I'd expect to be commonly recognized in conversation today.

Yep, "The Glades" in Season 1. It's silly, they drive to the middle of nowhere (the everglades) to this tiny town, and there are literally 3 DeLoreans in a single camera shot as they pull into the main area. Another one is near the black truck a few minutes later, not sure if it's a 4th or one of the first three.

At a car show in Seattle last weekend while waiting for another owner to get going so we could head out together three guys walked behind my car. My Stage II motor was running with its lopey idle and one of them said "there's no way that thing is running on all cylinders, what a piece of crap." All the while looking over his shoulder at me. Idiot clearly knew nothing about cars.
