I've seen these bubbles (see attached picture) on some late 81s and 82s as you enter the car. Is there an easy fix for this? What's the cause... just age?

My guess would just be the adhesive underneath giving out after 35 years. You could probably inject some adhesive using a syringe and then press down til it dries...but not sure if it would lay flat again.
The adhesive is letting go.
put some arm rest caps over them and forget about them :)
Yes - the attached PDF might be of help.

I had the same issue on my 83. I bought a set of caps and had to modify them. Because of the one piece speaker panel, I had to trim off the edge of the cap so it would lay flat.
Maybe try hitting it with a heatgun while you try to smooth it out. It might melt the adhesive a bit and allow it to re-stick itself.
Yes I did that to solve the same problem on my '83 concours car some years back. However the air below needs an excape hatch. Take a pin and put a tiny hole in the center of the bubble and gently massage the air toward the hole as you heat it. Don't overheat it or you could burn your hand and/or the material.
