Is there no way to change a thread title? It would be nice if once a problem thread found a solution, the owner could go back and append (Problem Solved) to the thread to making searching for full solutions easier.

Yeah, it's a good suggestion. At this point, just responding within the thread that the problem was solved will prompt one of the administrators to amend the title.
