You can always drain it and add the spec amount then see what's normal, before it has a chance to leak....

Draining it is not an option. Unless you disassemble the entire transmission and drain each part there is no way to get all of the fluid out. The torque convertor alone holds almost a gallon and it doesn't even have a drain plug. Just follow the procedure in the manual and try to get it right in the middle, certainly at least to the min level. Understand that when cold the level is much lower and you still won't harm the transmission but if you have too much and get it hot it will be over-filled and that can cause foaming and leaking.
