@ LB78 Sounds like from your experiences of your cars' driving/shifting, my guess your shift computer is 'toast'. Better to rebuild/replace the shift computer before you have to purchase a new...
@ Dhennick99 ........I agree with @David T, if you have the skills this isn't that difficult of an upgrade to do.
See my post #7322 In 'What have you done to your DeLorean today?' There aren't...
Yes I did. It's a quality product from what I see, time will tell.
I'm a retired Aircraft Mechanic.....been doing 'professional installations' for years, "Do you feel safe in your Aircraft"?........
Well.....new torsion bar arrived, I handled it like a stick of dynamite! Routine re-assembly(not touching anything), but I found it took three tries to get correct tension.
1) Raise door so the...
@ Nicholas R Interesting explanation, thanks for your input, always learning something new about our special cars.
I will say the 'breaking/shearing noise' was very, very loud , I thought...
@ 010 I have to agree with you on this that some kind of 'small' stress occurred during the bar's lifetime and it just finally gave up. My bar wasn't touching anything as it was completely inside of...
@ pk2678 I have to agree with you, the area looks like rust to me. If this was dirt/rust then there must have been an extremely small fracture allowing stuff to get in and weaken the overall...
@ cdrusn I sent you a PM, can you maybe explain what these folks mean "professionally installed" ?
@ Elvis Thanks, I'll use your measurement suggestion when I'm setting my Torsion Bar. I'll check it against my passenger door.(still original Bar)
@ captainneo With the new bar coming in on Friday, I'll be starting over on "pre" torquing the new bar. The method is to pre torque the Torsion Bar so it holds open
the door approx. 4-6" from...
@ Rich This was NOS back in the day.....don't remember who I purchased this from. My 'D' records are buried in the garage somewhere. :hmm:
I thought I'd share pictures of the broken pieces of my Driver's Torsion Bar. It appears that there might have been some surface problem that ultimately led to it's failure.
(it cleared the hinge...
Well.....I did find 'New' torsion bars from a company DMC Houston recommended www.dmoco.com is the company reproducing the original part, although not cheap.
On their website they mention....

Hello All, I'm in need of torsion bar for the drivers side door #100931. Mine snapped today, what a noise! :jawdrop:
I know they're not available as an OEM part, I'll even except a used one(not...
@jawn101
I had this very problem when I purchased my car 27 Years ago. I used late 70's VW injector seals/o-rings when I noticed way too much movement of the injectors(in metal holder)
I...
@ DMC5180,
Thanks for your reply. My fuel pump assembly is currently working quite well(for now). This pump in my car is my second one in my 27 years of ownership.
Really just doing research...
@ DMC5180,
Did the fuel pump assembly fit(as you said) without lifting the access panel when all was re-assembled and screwed down?
So you didn't have to cut/modify anything in replacing your...
I'm not a tool reviewer, but this looks very similar to a Bosch unit I have with the "T" fitting & valve, indispensable tool when trouble shooting K-Jet.
Yes, you should buy it....!
I did exactly this mod as suggested by Dave last fall, I was very happy with the results and the voltage to the gauge was much better.
I can attest that this method works, I kept frying my console clock because of this spike, now no more issues.
I'll be celebrating my ownership of 27 Years in two weeks, it's been a 'sometimes' great experience in taking care of my car. Every time I repair/upgrade a system/item on my car I know it will be...
I agree completely, I have over 97,000 and my baby runs fine. (Although I need to do a valve adjustment this winter)
Man I feel your pain & anger, but your post made me seriously laugh out loud......:hysterical:
I wish you luck in repairs and or replacement....
Dude......so sad, I feel for your emotions when this happened. Did the neighbors hear you scream? :ohcrap:
