Original NOS? As I've found they don't age well if it's an original red type lead.
Was the king lead from the coil to the distributor ever changed? Or is it still the old red one?
For those gauges just fit the lens with an LED behind it, there's less space than the screen accurate version gauge.

Note: you'll only need to remove the rear section of the roof liner. No need to remove whole thing.
Yes it'll be fine if the box hasn't lifted. Just do it with both doors open to release any strain, and tighten the bolts slowly in order.
