What wheels/rims do you have??

Hi all,

Decided to start a thread on what kind of aftermarket wheels people have on their D's, along with what tire sizes are on the wheels!!

These are the wheels I would like to use on my D when it is complete, I will also have the DMCH skirt/ground effects kit

This is so strange that you would bring this up right now as I've been researching the heck out of aftermarket wheels for the car.

What I seem to be finding is that you have to watch for a few things when shopping for wheels for this car. The offset is very important, especially for the fronts. The stock front wheels have a 35mm positive offset (usually what you would find on import type wheels) while the rears have a 19mm positive offset.

Those wheels you have picked out look nice, but you'll want to find out the offset so as not to have the front wheels stick too far out and hit the fenders. Also you'll want to make sure the hub bore diameter is large. The DeLorean is 72.1mm.

I also found a picture of that same ebay car (I think?) doing a Google search recently, and just loved the way the rims looked on the car. I think the "dish" looks very nice on these cars, although I wasn't crazy about the black centers.



So I started to hunt for some wheels that I thought might work on the car and this is what I came up with. G-Line wheels. G817.



They come in the correct 4x100mm bolt pattern and have a 73mm hub bore. The offset is positive 38mm. So they will require a wheel adaptor/spacer for the rears. I was going to go with the 17x7.5 for the front with a 225/35/17. The tire diam. matches the stock 14"

How do you measure off set?? And what is meant by 35mm positive offsetfor front wheels and 19mm positive offset for rear??

Ok, thanks for the info!!!! I also changed my mind about the wheels I wanted!! I like the ones you found!!! I will get them with black center! There is more info on them and easier to buy!! The other ones, I can't seem to find the offset for them and a proper place to buy them from. Ebay has them, but not the sizes/colors I want!! Too much research!!
I really love the dish look as well, the ones I found didn't have as much!! I fell in love with that cusotm Delorean I came across. I wanna give my car a bit of a modern look, since this is a timeless automobile, and the car of the future!!! Also since I am working on the custom double-din dash!!

Hi Billy, yeah it's me.

Just to let you know, I havn't completed all the research yet to confirm these wheels will defintely work. I'm pretty sure they will, but I havn't actualy taken any measurments on the car with the wheels off to be 100% sure.

Now the front stock wheels are 14x6 and the narowest wheel for a 17" for the front they have avalible is a 7.5" wide. (1.5" wider) I don't think it will be a problem because the offset of the aftermarket wheel is 38mm which is very close to the 35mm of the stock wheel, but you also have to keep in mind the aftermarket rim is going to be wider. Without actually doing the math (just in my head) you can split that 1.5" in half which is going to be appox. 3/4 of an inch added to the inside and the outside width of a stock 6" rim on each side. Of coarse you can also compensate for the 3mm difference from the stock 35mm offset to the aftermarket 38mm offset, but 3mm is not much. There should be enough clearence there looking at the front wheels on my car because the rim and tire sits a quite a bit inward of the fender lip, so to push the wheel out another 3/4" shouldn't really pose any problems.

Looking at the front inside wheel well, there doesn't seem to be much in the way of a wider rim hitting or rubbing on anything, but some cars may require relocating the speedo cable a bit more out of the way. Again not 100% sure on this.

Now if you plan to lower the front of your car like mine is, tires are going to be a little tricky. I've found that the only size that would most likely work without any problems is something that matches the stock 14" diam. tire. I came up with the 225/35/17. Which is the same outside diam. but a bit wider. I don't think the width with be a problem though.

As far as the rears, you are going to need a wheel spacer/adapter though. I wouldn't get just a spacer, I would get an actual adapter (with pressed in studs) much safer.

You may have to shop around a bit for these or possibly buy a set and have a machine shop do some work to them. I know one of the DMC vendors was selling these at one time, but I think they are out of stock of them at the moment.

You'll notice on these though that they only have a 60mm hub bore, so they would need to be machined to accept a 72.1mm bore, or just keep searching for ones that already have a 72.1mm bore.

If you get one's like these that are a 1" thick spacer that should give you appox. a 13mm offset for the rear as compared to the 19mm offset of the stock rear rim. So these will make the rim stick out a bit further than the factory rim appox. 6mm. which should be ok. Again, this is how far I've gone on the research and need to do more, but I just wanted to give you an idea of what to look at.

$500 for a set of nice wheels with free shipping is not a bad deal though, huh?

^ Oh man... Those are some "baller" type rims... Totally unfitting for a DeLorean. Multi spoke is definitely the way to go if you want to replace the stockers. But somehow I find the stockers look best.
