Car shuts off in a right hand turn...

    Hello all.

I am having a weird issue with my D, even after replacing the fuel pump. I was suffering this same symptom before replacing the fuel pump and upon checking the pickup hose and filter in the bottom of the gas tank, I decided to get the new improved baffle setup with a new pump, rubbers, etc. The thought was that the filter was incredibly crusty and perhaps in the turn and with little fuel in the tank, the pump could just not have enough fuel to pump. Whether or not the pickup hose was pinched, I thought the improved part would eliminate the possibility of pickup-hose-choking.

But the issue still exists. Ideas?

    Question

Does it happen if you have a full tank?

Could it be something in the steering column and the ignition key set up or does the car stall?

Is it only a right hand turn at speed (20+mph), or does a slow creeping turn do it too? I'd try to test it in a empty parking lot myself.

Had the same issue, and the cause might be the same for you. Check, then clean, clean, clean & clean the wiring connector at the front left corner near the washer fluid tank. The wiring feed to the fuel pump runs through there, and a turn could wobble it enough to cause the pump to cut out.

    Lou,

Great point. I had not taken her to the gas station since swapping the fuel pump and pouring in that two gallons of ethanol-free. With a full tank and the 'parking lot test' suggested by Flicky, I haven't had it happen again but I am going to check the wiring connection suggested by 'Vixen anyway (for good practice).

@DJDogBone - I don't know if I could describe it as a stall but essentially, yes. It just cuts off. I can pop the clutch and it starts right back up.

With only 2 gallons of gas it is very possible it is sloshing away from the fuel pick-up, especially if it is not assembled just so. The wiring is also a possibility but if it is not happening now that you filled the tank that is less likely.

Thanks everyone. I did check/clean the connection suggested by Project Vixen. The issue hasn't happened since filling the tank. On to the next thing: fixing the fuel sending unit connection
