    Vin 11408, LS Swap

So I decided to take the plunge this winter and effectively double my hp an torque. Now to make everything work. I will update this thread as I go, I am shooting to have a driver by spring.

    Info:
    2006 5.3L LS4
    UN1 Trans
    Trans moved forward 3"
Originally was going to run MS3, now planning on running stock GM computer.

Picked the engine up from the wrecker, 64000kms. Notice the compact water pump.

    Out with the 3.0!

    Adapter plate

Initial mock up. This is where I am at, revising the transmission mounts.

If you don't mind me asking, what does a used LS motor go for? $-wise?

I don't always drive cars, but when I do, I prefer DeLoreans

No-one is to stone anyone, even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say "carburetor"

Well you can pick up a iron block 4.8 for as low as 300-400 I have heard. Aluminum blocks comand a little more money. Generally, 750-1000 for a motor and wiring harness is reasonable. All these numbers apply to the more readily available motors.

The true ls motors (from corvettes, etc) command a higher premium. But then again it is a vette motor. I am refering to the LS1, LS6, LS2, LS3.

I just love how clean & compact LS engines look in the DeLorean engine bay. Was there a reason why you chose the LS4 in particular? I'm guessing the fact the engine was designed for transverse mounting means more compact accessories like the water pump? Will you have to swap out the oil pan, or modify the current one?

I noticed you've removed the exhaust manifolds. I'm guessing they won't fit due to the engine cradle? I'm looking forward to what you'll come up with for the exhaust system. I'm trying really hard not to pepper you with questions... I'm such a huge fanboy of these LS swaps.

Wow this thread has taken a wrong turn to transaxle eternity! Hahah

May I suggest to split this into a thread called "transaxle mod theories" so Josh can have his thunder back?

May not be a bad idea. Transaxle/transmission information is definitely valuable, but should probably have it's own thread.

Truthfully, it might be nice if there was a section for transmission resource help. Especially as more people are modifying cars or engine swapping. Josh and I could talk about our experiences moving the transmission forward, along with any other engine swaps; those that have fitted Porsche 915 transmissions could share about that, potential improvements could be discussed, as well as general information about the 369 5 speed, 367 4 speed, UN1 5 speed, UN5 5 speed, UN7 AWD 5 speed, and the Renault 4141 automatic.
