'NEW' 24 mile DeLorean for auction 6th June 2015. Brooklands Auction UK

At the request of the auctioneers I'm posting this over on this forum as well as ours:
    Dear Chris,

Good morning….I'm PR for the classic car auction specialist, Historics at Brooklands.

We have a major sale of 160 classic motorcars at Brooklands Museum on Saturday, June 6th, and amongst them is this 1981 DeLorean…with just 24 delivery miles on the clock and having been stored for a total of 31 years

    Herewith reference to the car:
    http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/aucti ... 2.aspx?p=3

Originally supplied to the USA, this unique vehicle is the last DeLorean DMC built in 1981. It is unique in that it only has delivery miles on the clock, a total of 24 miles. It has never been registered or driven on the road. It certificate of origin paper work shows that it was transferred by the DeLorean Motor Company to the DeLorean dealer in Newark, New Jersey USA on June 10th 1982 where it stayed locked away at the dealership until the present owner purchased it in November 2000 and shipped it to the UK where it was again locked away and stored in a warm dry garage for the next 15 years. The car is so unique it still has the factory fitted delivery and EPA stickers attached to the front windscreen. The vehicle comes complete with the original battery, tyres, wheels, owner's manual, tool kit etc. The car has had no modifications except to keep the fluids and oils fresh and the tyres maintained at factory pressures. This DeLorean is supplied with the certificate of origin, the C61 BTI customs form showing the BTI reference number needed for the NOVA certificate and a copy of the shipping invoice. This is an icon of the 1980s and probably the only DMC12 with delivery mileage in the world; a unique opportunity to purchase what can only be describe as motoring art.

For a bit more info on the car there is another thread about it hear: http://www.deloreans.co.uk/forum/vie...hp?f=20&t=5752

For a car that's only had fluids changed and is otherwise all original, doesn't it sit awfully low on its front suspension? It looks good, lowered, but good. Doesn't it?

    I thought this sounded familiar...

The last 1981, and the first 1982 DMC-12s stored, and then sold together as a pair.

Any idea whatever happened to the second car?

Your damm good at finding old threads there! I understand it was shipped to Germany after the two arrived in the UK.

    Supposedly it is Germany.

Two European gents, one English, one German (or at least living in Germany) formed a partnership to buy them both in the US, as they would only be sold as such. 10001 therefore went to Germany where it assumed to still be.

Germany. Interesting to finally know. This is one of those many blips about rare or unique cars that always stuck out in my mind whenever it popped-up on the DML.

Thank you! Though I must confess, I honestly believe that with all of the time and work I've spent studying and researching all things DeLorean, I could have instead gone to college and applying the work there I would have at least a couple of degrees by now.

    tumblr_m76xujWon11qjtgmyo1_1280.jpg

But I am going to college in the fall to make up for lost time, so there's that.

Anyhow, I do believe that this is an important auction as it has some serious potential to raise the value of cars everywhere. The reason being is that we have a trackable history of this vehicle.

Price when original American owner acquired it: $20,000. I'm estimating this because as stated he was a dealer, and that was the Dealer Invoice price of a new DMC-12 for dealers. That's based upon the sales pitch given to the dealer network of a $25K investment, and with a $5K markup on every car, they'd need only to sell 4 cars to recoup their investments.

When the vehicles were sold in 2000, the asking price was $55K for both (it included many other goodies, but we'll leave those out for now). Divided by 2, that means the car sold for about $27.5K for a $7,500 profit. Not bad considering prices of cars at the time. Which if you pour over the DMCNews archives, you can really get a feel for how prices have been increasing.

Now we have the vehicle here again for sale. The estimated sales price for the auction is £34,000 - £39,000, or $53,000 - $61,000.

That means that just by the auction house's estimates alone, the seller is looking at a potential $25,500 - $33,500 profit on the sale of this car. In a short 15 year span, the value of this car has actually doubled. Which is higher than most DeLoreans, but values have significantly increased across the board. Sure there are other considerations here as well. The bonus items that went with the original sale, and the specific uniqueness of this car in terms of both history & options. But still, that kind of rapid gain in price in such a short period of time, as well as the fact that it's never been a losing investment, could really go a long ways into raising the value of other cars.

    Very Cool & Interesting.....

It does strike me as odd that there is only one picture of the engine off of the website link. When looking at that picture, to "me" mind you, it appears that engine has more than 24 miles on it. Why would a car that has been so well preserved be missing the lower engine cover? Clearly the support bracket is broken right off. Also, if it was stored in a dry environment why is there rust? The ballast resistor bracket edges are all rusty? Inside of the Allen heads holding the CSV even look to have surface rust. There appears to be even slight fraying on the A/C belt edges. Hard to tell for sure because the picture is not that high of quality. Also, the cold air intake hose is missing. Is this even the right engine picture for this car? Just seems a bit odd... I could be wrong though
