    Found Vin 17009

Ken Kapalowski and I stopped by a rough-looking shop in New York state on the weekend to document the whereabouts of vin 17009. The shop owner's son was very reluctant to let us go near it and would not let us touch it so I didn't get great pics as it was kinda buried between other cars. But, here it is - a pretty sad '83 5 speed. Disregard the "For Sale" signs. We were told it's not for sale, but that the owner is planning on restoring it. However, he said it has sat here for 5 years with basically no progress. The windshield was cracked at the mirror and the seats have fuzzy covers on them. The dash looked pretty good. The louvres had the full-length brace down middle support. The epoxy on the frame was powdery. Not good.

Looks like someone couldn't figure out how to pull the engine without cutting the back of the frame off

I can only assume it was in an accident to cut the frame (bumper mount). But for it to be that bat, you would think the fiberglass, louvers, or back edges of the stainless would be goofed up.

It seems it would have been faster to separate body and frame than take the time to cut off that rear section to remove the engine.

Letting a car sit for years saying that you will restore it is utter BS. You either take action and make sure the car does not deteriorate any further, or you sell it. Letting it sit out in the open...

Especially in NY - winter does a number on cars. Sad to see it sitting in that condition, hopefully it will be rescued sooner than later...

I know. It's nuts eh? The only work done, I think, was that the engine was pulled 5 years ago to have it rebuilt. ??? No idea where it is now.
