How To: Do it yourself headliner recovering

Had a go myself at doing mine at the weekend, as the old ones were pretty ropey decided I had nothing to loose and bought enough headlining material to do the whole car for around £20...($30)

The new material I went for was the best match for colour and also the thickest so was quite forgiving if you can't get the backings perfectly smooth..

As you can see the originals had gone pretty baggy...

Original cloth removed and before I removed the foam which disintegrated as I touched it..

Started by applying spray adhesive only to the recessed area to allow to be able to stretch the corners into place..

    Finished and refitted

I'm sure a professional might be able to pick holes in it but for an outlay of just £20 I'm pretty chuffed with the results

Looks good, what are the details on the material you used?

I used the LR light grey, I ordered samples of each grey Martrim do and it was the closest match and the best quality of the 3, I just used a heat resistant spray adhesive.

Would you able to follow this example to do the headliner parts that are in the middle T of the car? The pieces attached to the doors on my car are fine, but the pieces in the centre and along the back were never recovered properly. That extra flap of material that is supposed to stay and then get wrapped into the door seals got trimmed on my car. Likely just didn't know how to do it for whoever had my car before me. It's one of those things I don't really have to do but would love to get it right as they hang down a bit too much on those edges because that material isn't where it needs to be. You did a nice job on yours.

Yea I have enough material left to do the T sections. I'll upload pics at a later date as I do them.
