    First Off Sample

    Hi Everyone,

I took off my passenger side taillight this evening as some of my taillight bulbs are burnt out and saw this unusual sticker on the back of my taillight board. It says the following:

    RIVBT BULB
    HOLDERS TO e/BOARDS

    FIRST OFF SAMPLE
    VIII
    PART No 300 W
    DATE 6/8/81 SIG (????)

Has anyone seen this before? Is this board unique in some way?

Does it have a flux capacitor?
Does it run on 1.21 Giggawatts?
Have you been chased by terrorist?

No but I have been chased by ladies because it’s a chick magnet!

I'd say that probably says "RIVET BULB HOLDER TO E/BOARD", as in the the metal base the bulb resides in.

Interesting, a lot of times a prototype or 'first off sample' would not end up in production, at least nowadays.

This is even more curious as they were well into the production cycle by 6/81 with no apparent changes to the board design I'm aware of? Maybe James Espey could dig up an internal memo linked to this but I'd say slim chance of that. Probably will remain yet another mini DMC mystery but hang on to that paper as it's rather unique IMHO.
