Soooooo other than a few issues of DeLorean World(and it's questionable content), exactly how does membership in this club benefit anyone, in any way, whatsoever?

I'd really like to know, because a membership drive pops-up every few years, and no one has ever been able to answer that question.

We're working on a number of different things to get the DOA up and running, back to a full fledging worldwide car club.

For the moment, we've made a deal with Back to the Future.com, so that all members receive 10% off items in the Back to the Future.com store by entering in their six digit membership number. We hope to expand this sort of thing with other DeLorean organizations and service facilities.

We're putting on Eurofest next year, and working on an Expo in the very near future.

These are just some of the many things we're trying to do to keep Association worthy of operating. We're a very small board, only five of us at the moment, who have been very active over the last year. That being said, we would love to have more people join the board and contribute to the association. Our next election is next year, so if it's something you or anyone else is interested in, please let us know.

Is the DOA not for profit? The PNDC (you might even be a member) is only $20-$25 and members get quite the bang for their buck, from newsletters, tech sessions, picnics, parties to even a 1 million dollar liability policy.

You may want to enlighten us about what the DOA will be offering now as well, not just down the road. I was a DOA member for 3-5 years back in the 90's but I thought the DOA went belly-up, no longer doing events and magazines?

You know, I actually am interested. What are the positions, and likewise what are the meeting arrangements for board members?

I apologize for the lateness of my response; I don't get onto DMCTalk everyday.

Yes, the DOA is non-profit. We are incorporated and trademarked (our logo) in the United States, but still need to actively file taxes every year, thus why we are an Inc.

Right now the Association has brought back DeLorean World magazine as a quarterly publication. Our annual membership fees pretty much go to the design and publication of the magazine. Our graphic designer and printer are based in the United States, and everyone on our board strongly believes that we need to keep it that way, "Made in the USA" rather than going the cheaper route and printing in China or elsewhere overseas. Average cost of designing and printing our magazine is $5 each, and we print 1,000 magazines per issues (4 issues per year, 4000 issues total).

We've been slowly chipping away at getting a new website built, including a functional online store, which would sell back issues of DW, and other DeLorean related products. We're working on some new product ideas for 2016, stuff that owners and enthusiasts would actually want, rather than knick-knacks and other useless stuff.

Newletters, picnics, parties... we're working on it. The $1 million dollar liability policy - we just discussed this very topic in our last meeting. Yes, we have a liability for that exact amount when owners get together at DeLorean events.

We meet once a month via Skype, sometimes more, especially when we are in the middle of putting a magazine together. Right now our board is comprised of a total of five.

    Ronald Ferguson - President
Randal Atamaniuk (me) - 1st Vice President/DW Editor
    Roland Hoffman - 2nd Vice President/Media Specialist
    Gordon Carpenter - Membership Director/Treasurer
    Linda Powell - Secretary/Products Director

As you can see, we're all wearing multiple hats doing several different job functions. This is a volunteer position, unpaid and will take up a lot of your free time; but we would love to have some more people join us and help out. Gordon would really like to hand off the job of Treasurer to someone else; we need some help with coding for our website, an events coordinator, plus many more positions. Our next election is in February/March, so if you're interested, please shoot me off an email at: randalatamaniuk (at) deloreanowners.org.

Just a little about me and why I joined the board. I bought my DeLorean in October '93, I was just shy of 14 years old, so the D was my first car. And I still own the exact same one. I joined the association when John Truscott was the membership director. For me, the DOA will always be associated with John and Joan Truscott, and not that other guy with the initials E.B. So I have a very different perspective and experience with the association. When things got very quite a few years ago and I stopped receiving magazines, I got in contact with the people who were then on the board and got involved. I truly believe that the DeLorean marquee should have a nationally or worldwide recognized organization to support the community, and be a place for the media and enthusiasts (future owners) to reach out for information about the car.

I won't disagree that we need to offer more than just a magazine; that's what I'm trying to do, find more ways to keep the association relevant and worthy of having members. We were able to strike a deal with BacktotheFuture.com, so that members could receive a 10% discount on merchandise in the BTTF store, rather than us competing with our biggest advocate and advertiser by selling BTTF merchandise in our own store. I hope we can do this type of thing with more vendors, and that it goes beyond just toys and apparel.

We've got Eurofest 2016 happening in May, and we're putting together an Expo for 2017. We want to have exclusive content on our website for our members only, but again, we need more volunteers to help us with that sort of thing.

Obviously there is a stigma with the old association brand, but I hope people will reconsider by giving us another shot. We're not E.B., nor is E.B. in anyway associated with the organization anymore. In fact, I don't believe he's even a member. I just know for myself, I like the idea of having an association like this, and really want to see it succeed and continue a long life.

If you speak for the rest of the membership board in terms of both attitude as well as mission goals.... Sold!

This is precisely what I have been waiting for, some honest dialog to finally come out in terms of both the past, as well as the future. I honestly believe that you're not only on the right track, but I also believe that the DOA might just finally be able also be open to the suggestions of other avenues of how to grow the marque.

Most of all the DOA finally presented a genuine open invitation rather than just a pledge drive.

I'll email you in a little while to discuss things further about what your needs are, what I feel I can do for the marque, and we'll see if we do indeed have mutual interests and can work together. If not, no hard feelings and nothing lost. But if so, then we've a world to gain mutually.
