Pontoon O-ring seal NLA - alternatives?

    Hi there,

It looks like the pontoon foam O-Ring seal (106693) is no longer available. Mine are fairly crusty. What have you all used as a close looking alternative?

    Thanks!

Great question. No idea. I haven't heard of any solutions.

IIRC, there are similar (perhaps identical) O-rings behind the rear stainless panels over the breather holes that are directly behind the rear speakers in earlier to mid build cars. If you really want, you could steal those and plug the body breather holes with old worn out dust caps. If those holes don't leak already they will at some point.

    Hi Dave,

Correct. Here's a pic (before cleaning)..

So, it's only a partial ring on my car, which wouldn't do for the pontoon ring. When you say breather holes, is the purpose of that hole ito exhaust air out of the cabin? If so what happens if you plug them?

Many cars have the holes plugged. Their are enough other holes/leaks in the cabin that it does not really effect anything i.e. Driver compartment venting.

You can remove the "ring", cut it open and fill it with foam. Alternately you can get some square foam of the same size on a roll, cut it, paint it, and glue it in.

Is there any reason you want these? They don't do a whole heck of a lot

I suppose you could look at like. Wow, the vent louvres were supposed to be functional. Of coarse there's enough leakage between the quarter panel and pontoon that the louvre vents are just decorative elements.

Dana, what is the measured diameter of the hole?

I just used some foam with adhesive backing and stuck it on. It does the job. To me it did not matter if it looked original. The original stuff had deteriorated anyway.

When I repainted my engine bay I considered just using some foam weather stripping to fill the gap between the inlet and the flange that goes into the pontoon. Something like this... http://www.homedepot.com/p/Frost-Kin...734H/100047977
It's mostly aesthetic any way so I never got around to doing it.

    Cheers
