In our cars, the glovebox would barely be enough for a small flask.

Now the cubby-hole on the other hand...

I wonder if you could integrate shifting with a servo on automatic cars...

Big Update, I got my parts made and after some adjustments got everything assembled.

The parts have been made with 1/16 in grade 304 Stainless Steel ( of Course) so they are pretty heavy duty parts.
I have the switches installed, there are 6 MON-OFF-MON switches. I don't want switches that stay on they will just trigger the relays. The switch guards are reproductions of a NASA design, and are anodized aluminum.
The DMC logo and box above it have a black cardboard piece under it for now. eventually the logo will be backlit and the box will have a door and have switches, buttons, usb ports, etc.
The shift boot is stock, I have the option to easily switch to a gated plate in the future.

Here they are before assembly.... I made a few mistakes in the design of one of the parts and had to make some ugly cuts. It's ok because it will not be seen.

    The screen cradle.

All assembled and turned on, outside of the console, I have the computer mounted behind the screen for now. I may move it after I have a test fit, but that won't be until next weekend. All the cables are tucked away and only have the 2 power cords coming out the bottom.

Sure it will, autos should be just fine.

If you look at the parts, the opening is modeled exactly off the stock hole. The manual boot is just cliped in. The auto plate should fit right in it's place. You could use stock, or a SS one from DMOCO http://www.dmoco.com/products.html

I could also have something made.

also the design could be easily modified to use the the stock switches and armrest. I am going to build a storage compartment for mine.
