Digital Dash Project

Ive thought of doing this. But this is way above my capabilities. Amazing work.

An added bonus of running a stripped down obd2 computer is there are many unused inputs. Things like fuel level, speed, tempurature, etc can be fed to the ECU then to a computer to be used in an interface such as this. But as mentioned, getting a nice looking front end is way above my capabilities!

I was thought about this from last year. If someone can do something like this, since I have seen several cars with this technology, especially the Jeep Grand Cherokees.

Good point, I adore the digital dash in my Grand Cherokee - it looks so darn good you easily forget you aren't looking at dials until you bring up another screen or other information appears that reminds you it's actually a digital display.

That's just the bottom of the plastic bracket I made, it'll be trimmed smaller in my next version of the bracket.


I moved the screen down so the bottom of the veiwable area meets the bottom of the binnacle. It looks much better and doesn't waste space you wont be able to see at the top.

The only thing left is to make a better bracket and a bezel insert.

Update, I mounted the boards to back of the bracket, and made a basic bezel out of cardstock. I'll make it out another material later. The hardware is ok for now, it will be refined over time. Now I be focus on working on the software.

New update, (doesn't look like much but it was a lot of work)

• Painstakingly adjusted position of every text and line asset individually to fit the LCD's resolution
• Added Warning lights with code
• Added Icons
• Finished Metric mode, with new red Fuel section and alternate brake warning icon
• Added optional Bevel to give it a realistic look
• Fixed some adjustment problems
• Added small triangle to the bottom of the needle to match car
• Added sliders to 2nd screen for demos (not shown)

With that, the stock cluster is finished for now. There will be some adjustments and changes in the future , but now I can start of other dashes.

The screen is looking good and it looks like it is a nice fit in the binnacle. What type of computer are you using to run "Processing" and drive the graphics?
