Be Careful With Door Strut Removal!!

Never had one do this to me before! I have changed many shocks in my day but this was the first!

Was changing them out, lightly tapping on the canister at the top with a rubber mallet closest to the door (Drivers Side), it went sideways at the canister/arm junction for a split second then, POP!...gas and liquid everywhere.
Needless to say it scared the living bajesus out of me.

Anyone else ever had this happen?

    It was....shocking.

I hope you had the door supported so it didn't fall on you! The worst I ever had was once-in-a-while you really have to beat the thing to get it off a stud. If it hasn't been removed for a very long time they can be very stubborn to remove. Never had one break like that or even seen one that broke that way. I always try to hit it as close to the stud as possible when beating it off.
