I imported my DeLorean from Michigan back in April. I was well prepared and only hit one snag in the whole endeavour. The CBSA folks were unaware of the tarrif which makes vehicles over 25 years old, regardless of country of origin, duty free. The nice lady at the desk wasn't sure, her suprervisor was sure, "it's a fiction".
It's not a fiction, it's TARIFF ITEM NO. 9966.00.00:

I was in no mood to unnecessarily prolong my stop at the border so I paid up and drove on. When I got home I filed a CBSA INFORMAL ADJUSTMENT REQUEST form to claim the duty back:

Several weeks later I got a letter back saying that they required a copy of the title confirming the age of the vehicle. I replied with a scan of the title, a photo of the VIN plate and a copy of the Vehicle Import Form filled out by CBSA at the border.
Several weeks later I got a check for the amount of the incorrectly charged duty.
Lessons learned:
Don't expect officials to know things, bring hard copy.
If you do get hit for duty and want to claim it back, send all of the information they are going to need to determine that the tarrif item does in fact apply to your car up front.
