Johnny Carson - DeLorean appearance on his show?

Wondering if anyone can recall or has information on when JZD appeared on The Tonight Show? I've heard he did so in 1973, but don't have evidence of that. Any leads would be great.

    Thanks.

    That was easy.

BTW - if you click on DeLorean's name it links to every time he's been on any TV show.

Unfortunately, it does not have all the TV appearances for JZD. I have been trying to track down two TV appearances.

I recall seeing (and taping) these shows when they first aired and I have photos of JZD on the shows too (with the hosts).

1 - JZD with Hugh Downs on one of the first 20/20 shows (might have been the first season, filmed in late 1980) - had it on Beta (at one time)

2 - JZD with the Fire Star 500 project, with Oprah Winfrey - either AM Chicago or Oprah Winfrey Show - 1986) - had it on VHS (at one time)

Yeah, wish it were. I've checked with the Carson archive people, and they don't have that episode in their data base, and can't definitively tell me if JZD appeared as a guest on the show. They only have mentions of him from Carson's monologue tracked in episodes during the 80's. So was hoping somebody maybe even remembered seeing JZD on an episode to even confirm that aspect, and what year it might be?

    Tamir,

I was just about to reply to this with the same information. I checked with the archive people at Carson also.

Here is what they told me February of last year:

    Nick;

He is not listed as a guest. Maybe he was on with a guest host. Those early guest host shows do not exist.
    Sorry.

This was the info I gave them:

According to IMDB, John DeLorean was on the show that evening for an interview. I’m trying to find that episode.

It appears other guests on that show were:
    The Mills Brothers
    Jan Murray
    Don Rickles
    Danny Thomas

The date of the show I was referencing was 9/3/1973.

Yep. Records show that episode was guest hosted by Joey Bishop.

There has got to be another source though. Lots of people do off-air recording, someone has to have a copy out there somewhere. Maybe start with some other film archives or collectors?

Good catch. I didn't know that episode had a guest host on it. Then that makes sense why they don't have a record of it.

Now I'm curious what they talked about!
