    Mechanical Fuel Pumps

I had a few spare minutes this afternoon so I modified my "Torino" (versus Sofabex) fuel pump:

The 1/4" barb is not 1/4" ID -- it has an extremely small hole at the bottom (Sofabex does too):

That hole is fantastically small -- .024".

I highly doubt I could feed my carburetor through it (each jet in my carb is .048").

Sofabex pump (note the extremely small ID 1/4" barb):

Out of the box the 5/16" barbs don't have any sort of rib at the end -- I used a tube flaring tool to give the hose clamps something to butt up against.

(This is the pump I drove to Chicago on. My fuel lines are 1/4", so I had to adapt them up to the pump. The new pump has 1/4" barbs:

I've run out of barbs to modify this one -- I'll order some in).

My guess is that that port was intended as a vapor bleed and relief port, to keep the flow rate through the pump to some minimum, even at times of low engine demand. I have it connected to the former fuel return line.

On my Solex setup, there is only one fuel line leading from the pump to the two carburetors; the 1bbl has two barbs on the inlet side, one of which daisy-chains to the inlet of the 2bbl. This is how it was connected on the Alpine GTA my manifold came from. It may have been different on other cars.

For a 2100, 1/4" barbs in and out work great:

I've repurposed the old K-Jet return line as a front to rear fuel line (old accumulator tee capped off). My previous rubber fuel line now serves as a vent line (tank vents from one end of the car to the other then back up front again).
