Congrats! You will love being a Delorean owner!
I got my car (#3589) from my wife's Aunt's estate, was parked for 25 years in the back of her garage, covered in blakets, much like yours.
I spent about $4000 getting it back in the road, but I did most of the work myself with the help of the Delorean Club of Ohio, and parts from DMC-MW. I think the most expensive single aprt was the fuel distributor ($550?), and tires ($600-$700?). Fuel line kits, Cleaning the fuel tank, rebuilding the brakes. First start was super cool, but not complete...
2nd start, after replacing injectors and other stuff was better...

3rd start was the charm after replacing Fuel Filter and plugs...

Finally, the piec' de' resistance'...
Our very first parade!!

It wasn't hard. I had great teachers and friends though. The DMC club will help you get it back running...

I'm curious about the tail pipes... Some one must have put an aftermarket exhaust on it at some point as I think all stock tips are straight cut.
I could be wrong and someone will no doubt correct me if I am.
Anyway, congrats!

Exhaust tips changed somewhere in the production chronology. It isn't a specific VIN that had straight tips and then these slanted ones later. More like by year, but then that wasn't true for all cars either.

I'm curious as to the VIN. Mine is also a December '81 build '82 model year.
