Early Stage-II exhaust tip and fascia gap

Ever since I bought my car, I thought that the exhaust tips looked pretty far away from the body of the car. It doesn't look like there's any way to adjust the muffler higher up. Is this the expected spacing? The exhaust is mild steel and my upgrade was done in 2006 at DMC Florida.

You should be able to loosen the 4 clamps on the muffler and raise it by rotating the upper connections and the tail pipes. Unless it's all rusted together by now.

Yeah, that does look too low. Here are a few pictures of my Jet Hot coated exhaust system ie the same as you have, obviously before my engine swap. The may provide a frame of reference and help you spot where adjustments need to be made.

I'm sure you're right Dave (probably about the rust too), and thanks for the photos Henrik (wow, my exhaust used to look like that!?)

I've never removed or installed a muffler and I'll probably learn a lot by trying, but don't these brackets set the height of the muffler? I don't see any way to adjust the position.

The brackets were there to hold the OEM muffler, DMCH stage I adapted to that configuration even though they didn't technically need to. Header cat pipes hold the muffler at a defined height not adjustable up/down. Your issue is not the muffler being too low. The Tail pipe just needs to be loosened, rotated up and perhaps re-centered a bit. If you have traditional U-bolt clamps that have deformed the muffler to tailpipe joint, you could be in for a challenge. If you have Band clamps it should be much easier pending rust.
