Impressive but not as impressive as it could be, I just wish their high milage was done on the original engine. They are on their 2nd engine.

We drove through Forks. No sparkly vampires in sight, lol...IMG_20230815_122148168.jpg

...and all the way up to Neah Bay and Cape Flattery, the northwesternmost point in the contiguous US. It was a challenging drive, a lot of twisty roads along the way. We stopped for dinner and gas in Port Angeles. We had filled up within a few miles of each other before starting the drive up the peninsula and got comparable gas mileage so that was reassuring.

After dinner we hit the road again. IMG_20230815_203240462.jpg He had a longer way to go and a shorter time to get there than I did so we split up again in Tacoma. I stayed the night there while he pressed on to Yakima.

The next day I headed for home. Rolled over 52000 on the way. IMG_20230816_101735577.jpg

I hit a snag at my first fuel stop. The pump went about a gallon more than I expected before spilling over and shutting off. I was worried that I had an issue with my vent lines (despite having replaced them and the rollover valve a few years back). The fuel was backed up into the filler neck and would start to drain down and then bubble back up and I texted a couple of my buddies in a panic worrying that I'd screwed something up and would wreck the emission system by driving like that but everybody told me not to worry about it and the potential emission control issues were really only a serious concern in newer cars. I let the car sit in the shade for about 15-20 minutes while I ran into the mini mart and grabbed a cheeseburger and by then the fuel had subsided from the filler neck so I started it up with the filler cap off and let it run for a minute. When nothing seemed amiss I closed everything up and went on. I asked Toby about it when I got home and he thought it was possible that the fuel had been boiling in the tank. It was a 100 degree day and I had the sun on my hood for most of the day so it wasn't out of the question. I didn't have the spillover issue at my next two fuel stops so hopefully it was a one-time aberration that I can blame on a faulty gas pump.

Ryan was going to try to make it as far as SLC that day so I decided to try and make it home in one go so I could let him change his oil at my house and we could grab brunch before he headed home. (I offered to let him crash at my house but having experienced my guest room's Wal Mart futon before, he decided he'd be more comfortable at a hotel, lol.) I made it into Idaho by sunset... ...and got home around 12:30 in the morning. It was around 860 miles from Tacoma to my house, which might have been the furthest I've driven in one day since I was 18 and drove from Philly to Bangor on my first big road trip of my life. The car made it with minimal issues but the owner was ready for the scrap heap!

Last Tuesday the 22nd was the 7-year anniversary of my first road trip with 10907 so this was a good celebration! NGL, every so often I start thinking I'd rather have $50k and a lot more free time than this car, but then I get out on the road again and I'm ready for another 7 years and 31,000 miles

It looked like an interesting little town, some of the places had signs saying "Twilight fans welcome" haha. I was never super into Twilight but I remember thinking the scenery was really pretty when I watched the movies at the dollar theater. The Cape Flattery trail was cool, if it weren't for all the other people you could pretend you were in a primeval forest.IMG_20230815_140729032.jpg
