Hadn't been doing much road tripping for the last few years between Covid and 6 day work weeks, but I guessed wrong about when DCS would be and ended up with 2 weeks off in the middle of August. A buddy of mine (our own hippieman9) was going to Yellowstone and up to Toby's after DCS so I met him in Idaho with the intent of caravanning up to Seattle.

The caravan only lasted from Burley to Twin Falls and then I told him to go on without me so I could take a nap before checkout but if anyone was wondering how far you can drive a DeLorean on gravelly washboard road without disaster occurring, the answer is at least 2 or 3 miles, which we found out thanks to a Google maps "shortcut".
The drive through central Idaho and Oregon wasn't that impressive since most of the vegetation was brown and it looked like one big firetrap. Did get a few nice views coming through the mountains though...

On the was through Idaho I rolled over 51k, 30000 miles since the first night I drove it.

100 miles later I stopped for gas and checked my clock/lighter fuse since my radio and lighter socket had both gone dead. It was blown. I replaced it but drove the rest of the way using headphones instead of my fm adapter just in case. Before I left I did the usual one-car car show
Things got more scenic as I got into Washington...

Caught up with my buddy again in Kirkland. IMG_20230809_204400362.jpg
Finally made it to Toby's...

What I found out at Toby's in the next post b/c I need to copy and paste and this browser window will probably crash when I switch apps.
The main reason I wanted to go to Toby's was so he could check my idle and fuel distributor, because my car has an uneven idle and wide dwell swing that never seemed quite right. Toby checked the dwell with his meter on the frequency valve plug (2-pin white church connector), the old school way. He got a better reading than I do with my harbor freight meter on the orange wire in the blue church connector. He thought the uneven idle wasn't out of the ordinary and just the lambda system constantly adjusting. He compared it to a torpedo course correcting to hit its target, haha.
I'd had issues with one plug consistently getting more fouled than the rest. I'd replaced that injector with a recently cleaned and tested one but thought there was still a problem because of the uneven idle. We looked at that plug and he thought the color of the ceramic indicated it was producing good spark. We did, however, discover that one of my other plug wires was loose and probably hadn't been making contact at all. It probably hadn't got put back on right at the last Utah club tech session but my car did pass emissions right before I left so either it shook loose somewhere in Idaho or that 6th cylinder really isn't that important
We checked compression on the cylinder that had had the bad injector and it was decent. We also checked the #1 cylinder, which had been slightly low when I first got it checked after first buying the car. It was decent too, so that's encouraging.
Overall the car was less of a disaster than I'd feared it might be. It's got a leak on the driver's side axle seal but unfortunately Toby didn't have the parts on hand to fix it this trip. He did have some teflon spray for my steering column bushing, which had been complaining lately. He thought the bushing was still good, just a little dried out.
Hopefully a blown fuse and a loose sparkplug wire are the worst disasters I have to deal with on this trip!
Bonus shot, as a passenger instead of a driver on the way home from dinner : IMG_20230810_211047254.jpg
