Filler for inner door seal gap?

    Hi there,

After I attached my first inner door seal today, there was a small gap between the two halves. The picture shows the area before fastening. (I used 3M super weatherstrip adhesive to fasten the little piece inside the rubber bulb.)

What is the best thing you guys used to fill in the gap? Is there such a thing as a rubber putty? The original seal was filled in so that it was inconspicuous.

    Thanks.

There shouldn't be a gap, the two ends should touch and be glued together. Did you cut it too short or did it come that way? If it came that way, call the vendor who sold it to you and get it replaced.

    Hi Dave,

No, I didn't cut it too short. Sorry, I guess a better word for gap is "seam". The kit is DMC, and here are the 2 sides after I cut and fitted them:

    Driver's side:

    Passenger side:

Here is the seam on the OEM seal. It has a strong filler that makes it hard to see the seam:

What do I use for glue? The same 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive that I used for the outer seal, or something else?

    Thanks.

ultra black gasket maker in between ends then use a razor blade to smooth it when in place. Use the weatherstrip adhesive on the door frame to hold it on.

In that case, all you need is black 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive.

If it is a little on the short side you can pull and stretch it a little so you have a tight fitting seam. From the picture it looks like the ends are a little ragged, they should be cut straight. You use the short piece of hose to keep the seal from collapsing at the joint and as mentioned the 3M black adhesive is OK just use it sparingly, it is VERY messy stuff to work with.

If you don't want to get messy, quit working on cars and take up carpentry.
