Hi all,
I have Hervey's starter heat shield, is it necessary to install if I have Josh's SPEC 1 exhaust kit? Iam currently trying to install the heat shield after I installed exhaust headers, but very tight and cramped?
Necessary? If not taking it off.

Most of the OE heat shields rotted off years ago. It's just a pita piece that doesn't need to be there. If your headers are ceramic coated they also produce less radiant heat.

Mine are not coated. I guess I'll take it off, cause it is so cramped in there. Wanted it mostly for the wires so they won't be in the way. I have heard people's wires getting burnt.

It's up to you to route an secure wires with zip ties in such a position that they can't contact any hot surfaces

Yea that is what I am doing, but hard to get wires from leaning on exhaust header.

We route straight back along starter. Most factory cables are very brittle. We commonly replace.

My VIN: Early
I routed my Oreilly battery wire straight towards the tranny and into the tub. Also, I opted to eliminate the jump start wire since it would be an extra worry.
I used spark plug heat shields to further protect the wires.

I have to say, ever since I used a fire extinguisher to stop the jump start wire fire, anything that's steel has deteriorated...
