Your favorite movies: obscure, coming of age, old school, mainstream

So we all have some movies we wish were never made, but what are your favorites? Or what movies did you think were awesome as a kid?

I could fill this page with a long list, but I'll just list the ones that made me think of this thread:

    The Black Hole (Disney 1979)
    The Last Starfighter

    Sept. 81, auto, black interior

Good choices! I would add star treks 2 and 3 as well as smokey and the bandit and convoy (obscure trucking movie from the late 70's) but one of my favorites as a kid.

    BTTF trilogy as a given.

Aside from BTTF, when I was a kid in the 90's, I was very fortunate watching new movies that were definitely my speed. Right now, I am thinking about 1995 when these movies Lion King, Pocahontas, and Toy Story were in theaters at approximately the same time. You would not believe how happy I was.

I am very amazed now of how far back Toy Story has gone back in the years. Also, they are planning to re-release Lion King in theaters in a couple months.

My favourite movie that nobody has heard of is The Final Countdown (1980) Starring Kirk Douglas and Martin Sheen.

The USS Nimitz encounter's a Time Storm off of the Hawaiian coast and is sent back to December 6th 1941. my favorite scene involves a Pair of F-14 Tomcats going up against a Pair of Mitsubishi Zeros... Epic

I certainly remember seeing that in the theater in 1984. My brother and I were not allowed to see movies for the majority of our childhood so I was not jaded at all; it was an adventure for me. The little brother being able to keep stacks of porn in his room was a little bit jarring.

Splash the Zero's scenes from "The Final Countdown". Def. an entertaining movie.

Loved the last starfighter. Was always hoping something like that would happen... although being tested to fight koopas in real life Super Mario Brothers would have been lame.

I wore out my Gremlins vhs as a kid.
More recently I love Fear and loathing in Las Vegas and think it's Johnny Depps best work.

I remember renting this on VHS when I was young, not even a teenager I think. I loved that movie, still do! I need to get it on BluRay! As a matter effect, I have just added it to the list!

The movie I have the fondest memories of as a kid has to be 1985's The Goonies. I watched it in the late 80's at a school showing. Guess they didn't review the tape all that well, gluing a penis the wrong way on a statue... I never laughed so hard in my life. And the goonies continue to captivate young kids even now. It is a must see for young children. The imagination they get from that story... incredible.
