Has anyone ever made a prototype replica?

With all the effort and skill i see poured in to making perfect recreations of the BTTF cars, I'm surprised no one has made a similar effort to try to recreate the original prototype cars. The fascias are a little edgier, and the brown interior I think complements the car well, and the seats look amazing. Personally, I like the look better than the production cars.

    Has this ever been attempted?

Well its not really plausible using a production DeLorean, there are so many differences that you might as well start from scratch or with an actual mid-engine car such as a Fiero. Someone really have to love the shape of the original prototype to go through all that effort.

What about this then, just co-incidentally appeared on the Facebook this morning

it's a French effort made out of fiberglass, based on the Matra Bagheera, apparently.

    a pretty good likeness, imo.

I don't always drive cars, but when I do, I prefer DeLoreans

No-one is to stone anyone, even, and I want to make this absolutely clear, even if they do say "carburetor"

I dont think Proto 1 and BTTF replicas are comparable. A BTTF car is (for the most part) a DeLorean with more stuff on it. The prototype car uses a different 4 cylinder engine mounted transversely, in front of the rear axle. You'd honestly probably have an easier time trying to turn a Fiero into a Proto 1 replica than a production DeLorean into one.

Wow, except for the weird, little, urethra-type thing on the side skirt, that looks amazing!

Yeah that's a decent replica, but it's more like the production car than proto 1 by a long shot. Looks more like a testing mule pre-prod car.
