    It transforms the car making it feel 20 years newer. The first time I spun the wheel was mind bending after so many years of heavy steering Deloreans. I was so impressed I'm thinking of putting one in my green machine. I have one for it if I could only find the time!

    Dumb question. Perhaps the acme of foolishness. But I have to ask...

    Is that replacement rack collapsable to prevent it from impaling a driver in the event of a collision?

    Sorry to go off topic but semi related question here, I've got a pretty decent shake in my steering wheel of my 81 at speeds over about 80km/h. Pretty much everything is new in the front end other then the rack. I believe at one point someone had mention a worn out rack causing this. I'm pretty much down to that or a bent rim

    Most of time, a tire just needs to be re-balanced. Some brands more than others. We've also helped eliminate steering wheel shake by removing a shim from the rack. That applies more force of the rack to the pinion. Very much a last resort.

    Had the fronts done twice now off the car, my next step was going to be have them done on the car

    I rebuilt my rack a few years ago, but I still have slight play in the left side. All the internals were in good shape, with the exception of the right bushing, which I replaced.

    From a driving perspective, the steering feels great. It's tight with no vibrations at any speed.

    I'm thinking it's a shim / preload issue. Any thoughts?

    If you go to our website there is a description of the rebuilt rack. Click on the dropdown menu and then again on the third item down #118754G. That opens up a description of the kit contents and a picture which enlarges when you click on it. It is rather comprehensive to allow a total refurb of steering rack. If that doesn't answer all your questions let me know and I'll try to help.

    I too would like to know the answer to this question.



    The expanded metal tube is definitely eliminated based on the image, so the question would be if there is some other compression method as part of the design. It doesn't appear as though the right section of the tube shown above is designed to crush; at least not in the way the stock column is.
