    Clutch master rebuild kit?

    Hi there,

My clutch master cylinder failed, so I had DMCFL put a new one on when they installed my transmission. The old one is a DMC part, and looks recent, but I don't know how old it is. It's at least 4 years old and was on the car when I bought it.

I took it apart and it still looks great inside. The bore is as clean as a whistle. So, I thought I'd find a rebuild kit to restore it with and save it as a spare. I see some references for kit options, but I don't know if they will fit. I measured the bore at 0.812"

Has anyone rebuilt one of these units? If so, what is a good quality kit that you recommend?

    Thanks.

    Hi Dana,

Steve & I both recently used this: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...907364&jsn=256

Not sure what bore size either of us have.

I didn't have much luck bleeding the system until I used a pressure bleeder. I made one using a garden sprayer like Mark D posted. I'm guessing I would've had better luck if I had bench-bled the master cylinder first.

I rebuilt mine, it had a slight leak at the peddle end. I used what was recommended on DMCtoday so I will have to look what kit I used.

I think this is the kit I used.

Thanks guys. I'll check them out. 13/16" is the right size.

You should still hone the inside of the cylinder to make sure it is as smooth as you can get it. Any pitting or corrosion and your rebuild will not last.

??? I get that as a general rule, but:

    Thanks.
Actually, it shines like a mirror in the light. Thus, I believe the rubber failed.

I saw that but typically when the rubber fails, it fails because the piston is moved over an area of corrosion and the edges of the seal get torn up. Bottom line, if you are rebuilding the cylinder, the ID must be very good if you want the rebuild to last. If the bore is good it is still good practice to lightly hone it before rebuilding.
