M12 1.5 Thread chaser

Anyone have a good recommendation for an M12 x 1.5 thread chaser? I'm having a lot of trouble finding one locally, and I've called all the local fastener and tool stores. Lots of taps, but no chasers.

I need to clean out my head bolt block threads.

You need a tap not a chaser. Threads need to be cut further into block. Other wise head bolts will bind and provide false torque readings.

I just grind most of the taper end off a tap and use that to chase the threads. That lets me also tap the holes better at the bottom if it's not a through hole.

Or you could just buy a bottoming tap.

Have not seen them locally. I actually don't buy the store brand taps except for chasing. The big name taps work so much better when tapping new threads.

Look on a machinist tool supply company. A good set will set you back big $$. Your probably better just buying a bunch of the common sizes you need.

If you go to a large auto supply they should have it but you may have to buy a whole kit to get just the one size. Or they could order it for you.
