Cringe-inducing interview with Lee Pace on last night's Colbert: https://www.cbs.com/shows/the-late-s...ine-lee-pace-/ (starts around the 35 minute mark)

I just wanted to put my hand over his mouth and go, "Shhhh, shhhh." Colbert might be Dead To Me after this, too.

(NGL, I kind of did want to see this trashfest but if by some miracle it comes to a theater near me I'm driving the Accord and possibly buying a ticket to a completely different movie, LOL.)

Has anyone here seen the film now that it's out? It is not playing in Chicagoland but noticed it is around in several states, but not Illinois. I was thinking of just renting it OnDemand or something. It will be about as accurate as American Made was. In that film, the main characters and a few basic facts were correct but almost everything else was made up or altered for Hollywood sake. Still may be entertaining with that in mind... I will let you know later.

I’m looking forward to seeing it.

It’s Hollywood folks. They don’t make accurate documentaries, they create entertainment. We have PLENTY of documentaries about the man, the car, the factory, etc, etc.....Personally I think it’s about time we got a movie about the story.

Are they going to add drama? Sure. Will it be 100% accurate? Nope. And I’m ok with that.

    Was Bohemian Rhapsody 100% accurate?
    How about Sully?
    American Made?
    Perfect Storm?

    (All very good movies, btw.)

Personally, I don’t care what Joe Schmo thinks he knows about the car or the man.

Colbert has been dead to me for a while.

Did those movies edit the facts in a way that completely misrepresented what actually happened and made their subjects look like exponentially worse people than they actually were, though? (Maybe they did and I'm just not invested enough in their subjects to know or care.)

I'll reserve my final judgment til I've actually seen it, but the fact that the film's star is apparently under the impression that the cocaine deal was JZD's idea isn't a good sign....

The familys of the fishermen in Perfect Storm sued the filmmakers for inaccurate information in the film: http://www.hollywood.com/general/war...torm-59095664/

NTSB investigators were upset with how they were portrayed in Sully: https://qz.com/778011/sully-ntsb-inv...-sullenberger/

Bohemian Rhapsody has a lot of inaccuracies according to biographers https://www.mirror.co.uk/film/how-ac...eddie-13644372

    ....as does American Made:https://www.nationalreview.com/2017/...ronald-reagan/

So to answer your question, yes and no. Some people were made out to be worse than they were, but not all of those people were the subjects of the movie.

Does it really matter? The point is IT’S HOLLYWOOD. A certain amount of manufactured drama and inaccuracy is implied, is it not?

Fair enough, but it seems like if you're going to make a movie based on real events, deliberately portraying an actual person as more of a villain than they actually were, especially when they still have living family who can be hurt by it, is a dick move. I'd feel a lot better about supporting this movie if they'd found a better way of manufacturing drama.

We don’t know that yet. Based on what I’ve seen this might not be that big of a stretch. John had some shady dealings, let’s not forget that.

I agree with that assessment. Most of us here are in a certain intelligence bracket. We know to take movies "based on actual events" with a grain of salt. However, the fu$%^n idiots that brazenly march up to us at the gas station yammering on about new cars and cocaine will now have even more ammo...an extra magazine so to speak, ready to lock and load into their "assualt conversation". They will watch this movie and consider themselves among the informed DeLorean experts and God forbid they catch sight one of these cars. They will think "OMG...a DeLorean and I just saw the movie last week. I need to talk to this guy." Nothing could prevent them from taking that "magazine", inserting it and going full auto on the poor unsuspecting owner who just wanted to get some sushi and a bottle of wine for dinner.

Maybe I got carried away. I may be a little uptight right now. My work van is in for a wheel bearing and I drove my DeLorean to work today...in Bristol TN...the day of the NASCAR race...right next to the track...and holy global warming cow farts I could have not garnered more attention if I was in an actual NASCAR stock car pulling a trailer full of unicorns taking turns mounting Jeff Gordon.

I think I'll just put a suitcase full of flour in Ziploc bags in the frunk. This way when someone says something about cocaine being smuggled in the doors, I can say mine came with the optional suitcase of kilos instead. Obviously, it was special order, and they couldn't list it on the window sticker for obvious reasons.
