    The counter rotation of the transmission (originally designed for front wheel drive application) had a tendency to spin the lock nut loose
    The implication being that... the engine spins backward (and therefore the gear set spins backwards) due to being rear engine?

    When it came time for DeLorean to buy his version of the PRV, he specced out the cheapest version he could. The Aluminum alloy for the engine block has the most amount of filler PRV would allow in order to cut down on the price of aluminum. This, unfortunately, would lead to "block rot" in later years whereas the degraded purity of an aluminum alloy will oxidize and eventually rot.

    "The original PRV used a Bosch Fuel mechanical fuel injection that was somewhat problematic.

    I must have gotten a good one - all original with over 215,000 miles and all I have ever done was clean the injectors a couple times.
