Lower Ball Joint Boot Cross Reference

My UK-made lower ball joint is newly torn and I just need to replace the boot itself. Does anyone have a cross reference for the part from Autozone or O'Reilly? And how about replacing the boot itself? Any tricks to getting the retaining ring to comply during changeover? Thanks.

Most of the cross references are no longer available (NLA). Many of those companies either no longer make the part or have gone out of business. Take what is left of the dust cover boot and see if the auto store can match something up. They may have a universal fit type boot. Ordering a boot from your favorite vendor can't be very expansive and you should be able to add something else to your order to help with the shipping like filters, bulbs, fuses, door struts, or wiper blades.

They are cheap and easily sourced from a vendor. Why not support the community?
The torn boot will be fine to drive on until the part comes.

As for replacing it, very straight forward. the hardest part is popping the spindle off the knuckle. use a new cotter pin after.

I have no problem supporting the community. I do that on a regular basis. Time concerning logistics with my driveway is my priority right now. If someone has it in stock via walk-in, then I'm most interested in that. I have the lower control arm and springs out of the car, so now's the time to tackle it for me with very little delay.

    Been there, done that.

DMC part number 105257. $6 Does both the ball joint and the tie rod end. I replaced all 4 on my car.

There is an upper retainer ring that needs to be removed after old boot is taken off, and transferred to the new one before installation. There is a lower "Gaiter Spring" that is NLA so it needs careful attention to avoid damage especially if you use a fork to separate the joint.

I assume they will fit the UK joint, but that is something to check.

Don't buy the boots from Hervey ( K109061 or K109061-1 ) as it is "universal fit" garbage because it doesn't have a lower retainer. It is just an upside down cup that lets the water/dirt in. Asinine. I have 2 in my box of useless crap from him.

I also assume that there is no readily available crossover, because of DAP / Hervey's solution. Or, maybe John doesn't know it yet or it's not priced competitively.

I couldn't find one. I found a crossover to the Gaiter Spring (from a period Land Rover) but it was expensive and not an exact fit.
