    Oil light sender removal

Substantial oil leak from my oil light sender unit. I assume I'm missing my crush washer, so I ordered one. I can't quite get a crescent wrench in to remove the unit, though, as I still have my asbestos heat shield in place.

Can anyone confirm the size of the nut so I can get the right fixed wrench for the job? It's bigger than 18mm. I'm guessing 20mm.

I think it's a 23mm. Im certain I ordered mine from McMaster and that's the only socket I've ordered there.

Alternatively, a 15/16" socket worked for me, although the fit was a little bit loose (7/8” was too small). I tightened the sensor to 28 ft/lbs.

Can confirm it's 23mm. Home Depot had nothing in that size. Auto Zone had a shallow socket (too shallow) and a deep socket in 23mm. I had to use an elbow and an extender with my socket to get it to work. Replaced crush washer, tightened as hard as I could and leak appears to have stopped. Thanks.

    oil light

[related problem to same sending unit]
The oil sending unit for the bulb not the
guage, won't shut off. The oil pressure gauge
shows 70 pounds. How to fix?

Check the wire going to the sender alongside the motor. The insulation buns off and the wire shorts to ground lighting the warning light. Either replace that section with high temp insulated wire or slide a firesleve over it.
