Removing the automatic transmission shifter housing
I have a project that requires removing the shifter housing from the automatic. That's the white-is plastic thing that the stick goes through to get to the linkage (part 105427, #18 here).
I got the bolts out, but I can't quite figure out how to disconnect the shifter rod (#25) from the gearshift rod (#30). Do I have to remove the nut at the pivot (#34) from under the car and remove the linkage with the housing, or is there a way to separate them from the cabin?
The annoying thing is that I had to replaced this once about 12 years ago (my pivot started seizing, and eventually the shifter snapped in half), but I can't at all remember how I did it.
Thanks!
