Jolt on acceleration

Hi all

Today I noticed if I really put my foot down from the lights I got quite a noticeable jolt in the first few secs almost like the wheels slipped or a gear slipped. I could replicate so just wondering if the clutch is going or if it might be jumping a cog in the gear box or something? It’s needs a fair bit of torque to do it (like foot down of light or up hill).

Anyone had this before?

Have you checked your engine & trans mounts?

Most likely transmission mounts or engine mounts letting go. Best to confirm with the vehicle on a lift and using a large prybar to move the engine and see if it lifts up.

At a relatively slow speed (15-20 mph) shift it to 3th gear, rev engine a bit, and let the clutch pedal out fast. If it slipping this is when you'll feel it. Based on your description I agree with the others that it could be a mount, but that's a pretty rare failure compared to a slippy clutch.

Thanks all - had a look underneath and all mounts look good (and look like they have been replaced in the last few years). I’m familiar with a slippery clutch so that’s why I had doubts on that. It feels almost like traction control kicking in for a split second just after launch. Lug nuts are all tight and cant see anything else loose

FWIW, those mounts can break (separate) and look pristine.

Thanks Ron. I’ll ask my local to have a look as they have a better hoist. Also, it was raining so could a long shot be the rear wheels were losing grip slightly? Does a small amount of wheel slip happen in first in the D with a lot of acceleration and a wet road?
