    Seat belt won't wind

My drivers side seat belt recoil has locked up. Does anyone have any possible fix tips before I go to remove the panel to get to the recoil mechanism? Also, any advice in removing that panel would be appreciated. I don't want to cut or peel if I don't have to. Thanks

I can't really help you, but please be warned about messing with the recoil mechanism. By all means, if possible, get a new one, unless it is an easy fix (like a bit of grease)

Thanks. Oh, I'd definitely replace it, especially if I have to take the panel off to fix it. Wouldn't want to have to do that twice! Just thought maybe a screwdriver tickling the mechanism here or there would might free it up.

No direct experience here. You may already know that you can get some limited/remote access to the seatbelt reel by popping off the slotted cover - passenger side demo in the photo here.

From there you might have luck laying a remote beating on the poor thing without needing to remove the whole panel. Some spray lube might help. I'm not sure where to best point it and you run the risk of getting the lube on the belt - forever.

Thanks Rich. I'll give that a shot. I've got some dry lube I could use if it should come to that.

Got it Rich. Removed the slotted cover and persuaded the reel a bit with a long screwdriver. Then I sprayed in a little air and was able to loosen up 30 years of dust and lint. A mini dust storm! Thanks!!
