    Ebay is full of auctions like this where people pay up to $5 more than the gift card is worth. What is going on? Even with the airline miles and ebay bucks you are at best breaking even at worse losing money.

    Lots of people outside the US like to buy them because it makes it easier for them to buy things online. Some sites will not take payments from non-US accounts, etc.

    That's one reason, at least.

    But I believe you still need a paypal account to use these ebay cards. I know when I had one I still had to go through paypal to use it even though I put the code in the ebay site.
