Brushed/Polished Door Handles (Mod or Available some time ago?)

Hey guys

Came across these photos posted on a FB Delorean club

He had bought car like this. No idea if previous owners did the mod themselves or if some vendor was selling modified door handles at some time ago.

Anyone seen this before?
The door handles do not appear to be clear coated.... I imagine if someone took the the upgraded metal ones and sanded down they would end up rusting.

Curious if anyone knows anything about this.
Really like the look especially with no rubstrips.

I really like the look also. But my suspicion is these are homemade

Yeah, I think the same that a previous owner sanded down the door handles and made them look brushed like the car body.

What I don't understand is how the heck the handles haven't rusted up all these years. They don't appear to be clear coated.
Maybe some type of oil or clear coat is used to stop rust from forming.....
I've heard of others polishing mild steel parts and then using oil to preserve and keep moisture out.

Aren't the reproduction handles aluminum anyway? in which case no issues with leaving un-coated apart from oxidation, that said that it probably held at bay by being constantly touched by oily hands.

Thanks for chiming in..... I was under the original assumption that all vendor reproduction handles were steel and (not aluminum)....

Apparently at some point, the handles were available in at least three different types: plastic, aluminum and metal (some pot metal?).

Update..... looks like someone over in the UK a (Dave Betts) had created some SS Flushed Door handles as well.

Also took a magnet to my current door handles.... and it didn't stick.... so that means they must be aluminum.

POT metal isn't magnetic..... and a super (+) is that you can easily polish it up too : D

We're spoiled for choice now, when I bought my car in 2000 in the UK both handles broke and didn't have many options. My friend, a pattern maker for a foundry at the time, hand-made replacement ones in brass with cast resin fronts complete with 'DeLorean' in raised letters. They're faultless in operation, but not visually perfect, that said they've been on the car for so long they've become part of it's story, so I have no intention of changing them.

Back then the question was 'where am I going to get a replacement door handle?' the question now is 'which door handle should I choose?' a nice problem, to have :-)
