Question Need a new AC Compressor, please recommend one to me!

Hello DMCTalk, I need a new AC Compressor!

There are just so many threads/posts that are years old and figured I should make a new thread for 2021.
I was originally looking to purchase a compressor from DPI ($340 shipped) but had heard of other owners ordering from ebay/amazon/etc saving a decent amount.

I've also noticed with some compressors you have to mount them sideways, wouldn't that be an issue for adding oil?

Hopefully someone can help me out as this summer has been a hot one!

You can order a genuine Sanden compressor direct.

    https://store.sanden.com/index.php/6668.html

It’s Model S6668. You can also find them pop up on eBay from time to time.

I've been using the sanden sd5h14 for 5 years no problem. Shop around you can find them for under 150 new. You will have to take the back off your original and put it on the new one. So making sure the oil plug is at the top will be no problem. Mine is at the top when I was done. If I remember correctly the torque on the bolts is 35 ft lbs. Please correct me if I wrong.

Thank you for the link Chris, is this one a direct swap? or does the backplate need to be changed?

Thanks Dave, I saw these two on Ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/18450730263...IAAOSwPZhfmB4t ------ https://www.ebay.com/itm/12427346083...MAAOSwGYBfHQAvbut looks like that would need the back plate swapped.
Is there a gasket needed for the rear?

You can buy a new one. But I used the one that was on the new compressor with no problems. Which is probably not proper but I figured what the hell. There a unique gasket. They don't stick and peel apart. I just made sure the original back plate was clean and dry. Then did the swap.

Haha hey if it works! Lol, I may try and find a gasket to replace either way. Thanks for the tip

I did just stumble across the Four Seasons 58666, which from the look of the pictures on RockAuto https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/fo...ompressor,6628 there is a Sanden stamp on the rear head plate and on the underbody itself along with a Sanden manufacturer sticker.

Looks like these are readily available on Amazon, RockAuto, etc. Is this a good option? Might just bite the bullet on Amazon because of their good return policy.

I would have no problem with either of them.

I just ordered the one on Amazon, I'll post an update once it arrives if it really is the Sanden like the pics show.

If you are going to replace the compressor, you should purchase a Sanden SD7H15. The first post of this thread linked below will tell you why. I guess now it's too late but should you change your mind...
