VIN 4300, the 24k gold plated Delorean at Hillsborough Concours.

These have been showing up all over social media.

Very refreshing to see this work of art out and about. Transportation for this must be stressful (so as to not ding the panels).

Beautiful. But man, it could use a set of Eibachs.

It's unique, but I don't think it looks better than stainless. I wonder how much actual gold there is on it.

Answer: 860 grams of 24 karat gold per car according to Nick Sutton. That's ~30 oz., just under 2 lb.

That quantity is worth about $US 60K today.

The specified plating thickness is 2.5 microns.

Fun fact: The Hagerty valuation on a Gold Edition D in #1 condition is currently $204K. This valuation tripled in the past 10 years.

Wow, I would have guessed much less. (Gold) I would have guessed more money for the car.

Absolutely correct. Thank you for taking the time to actually find the correct answer. Someone tried to tell me recently that the gold cars “only had a few ounces worth a few thousand dollars.”
