Angle drive replacement - torque specs

    Hi all.

Well after 16yrs of ownership, my original angle drive went kaput.

So im going to replace with another mechanical unit but seems DMCH is out of stock at the moment.

Assuming I have the patience to wait, and not be tempted by the GPS version, I had a quick question on torque specs.

I heard that it's extremely important to tighten the inside angle drive 1.25in nut as " hard as you can" or the hub assembly will come off. What exactly is " as hard as you can"?

Also, is it true the outside hub nut doesn't need to be loosened? Some people do while others don't. But I've heard if loosed the spec is 165ftlbs to retighten.

    Thanks for the info ,

    -Randy

Hard to re-tighten accurately since you can only get an actual wrench on it. Just tighten it bigly. No need to remove the outer axle nut.

I believe that it is important to loosen the outer nut. You want to be 100% sure that the stub axle is pulled all the way in to taper lock. Then retorque the outside nut.

As far as how tight - I agree that "as tight as you can with the biggest wrench you have" is about right.

With 10 fingers you can count up to 1024 in binary. I do it all the time and am totally not a robot.

PS please send me pictures of trucks, bicycles, and stop signs I can't figure those things out at all.
