Tam removed the lower rear pieces (sorry don't know the name). These are the pieces with the super rusty nuts on SS bolts. She got pretty frustrated trying to clip visegrips onto the remains of nuts down inside the pontoons. After she got them removed she cleaned and blasted them to remove the old undercoating. These pieces are bent up, so we need to do some work on them.
I had picked up some brush paints earlier in the day. The little posts on these plates are not SS so they'll need to be painted.

I have never heard of anyone else doing this but I think I am going to NOT install rivnuts but instead use the more modern plastic push pin fasteners. Not sure if that is the correct name or not but that's what I call them.
I may get some flack from Delorean purist but I think the rivnuts to hold the plastic rockers on is a horrible option.
Here are the advantages of these modern fasteners in my personal opinion-
    1. They will never rust or corrode
    2. They are inexpensive
    3. They are readily available from most any auto parts store
    4. They are quick to install and should be quick to remove if needed
    5. They look nice and should blend into the black plastic fairly well.
    6. They are well proven for this type of use in the automotive industry

I just need to decide what style, diameter, and length to use. The ones with the Philips heads look the part and fit perfectly with no redrilling even needed but one think I do not like about these is the Philips recess tends to strip out when trying to remove the fastener or you spin and spin and spin but it doesn't loosen unless you pry on the fastener at the same time while loosening.
Even if I did go this route (the screw type) I think it would be a be better than rivenuts and screws.

Pretty sure David Hudgins did exactly that, with the push fasteners.

    Okay
It would make it easier if people just used their name on here.

I've always thought a truck bed liner spray would look good on the pontoon. Have you considered that instead of painting it?
I'd like to see how those push pin fasteners turn out.

I looked into Line-X, Rhino or Raptor for my trunk. I have dealers in my area for all 3. I think I may go with Line-X although it will most likely be done next year.
Here's a sample of Raptor found online:

I considered this option but I feel like rough surface would be harder to keep clean. I painted the custom off road bumpers with bedliner and ended up regretting it. Once again because they were difficult to clean.

This is what I experienced with Raptor in a different application. It seems Line-X has less coarse finish which is why I am leaning towards that. I will speak with my body guy regarding repainting before making a decision.
